Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 08, 2010 8:24 pm Ok so im starting to think that our master suit isnt large enough, We are building a 35sq home so not small by any means, but the master bedroom is only 4.45x3.8. Not inc the WIR or ensuite. we have a queen bed, 2 bedside tables and a tall boy. I just dont want to be walking sideways to get into bed each night. What we can do is extend to the eaves (we are building a ranch style house with the master suite at the back of the house) What we cant do is extend the roof line. This will cost a small fortune and dont want to do it. What do you think? and as the heading says, how large is your master suite? TIA Building in the Hunter Valley - 5 glorious acres. Plenty big enough for a QB, 2 side tables and a tall boy. We have the same in our current BR and it all fits fine, and i'm pretty sure that bedroom is smaller than 3.9 x 3.7. I don't really mind if the bedrooms aren't big as I think they're just for sleeping in. The kids rooms aren't big but they only need a bed, a side table, chest of drawers and that's it. Re: Whats the size of your master bedroom? 3Apr 08, 2010 8:35 pm I agree that there only for sleeping, we have a 10x6m toy room off our living for the kids toys but i just wanted to make sure it was large enough without being poxy IYKWIM Building in the Hunter Valley - 5 glorious acres. It's bigger than our current bedroom, so I am happy. I too believe that bedrooms are for sleeping, so i wasn't that fussed with having an average size bedroom as long as my living/kitchen was nice and big. Add another 3.95m x 2.94m for our WIR and ensuite.. Re: Whats the size of your master bedroom? 5Apr 08, 2010 10:24 pm 4.5 x 5, or 4.5 x 8 approx when you include ensuite & wir, some of the size is due to the design of the house to make hallways etc work. But our build is 42sqs Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Whats the size of your master bedroom? 6Apr 08, 2010 11:02 pm Ours is 4 x 3.8. - again not counting WIR or ensuite. There is a bit of additional space created by the bay window, We have a queen size bed, bedside cupboards, clothes hamper, dressing table, bookshelf and coffee table in there, seems plenty big enough to me. Bigger than the bedroom in our old house and that had a wardrobe in the room, not a WIR. Re: Whats the size of your master bedroom? 7Apr 08, 2010 11:07 pm I have a different view - my bedroom is my haven and retreat, and definitely not just for sleeping in. So ours is approx 4m x 6.8m (it's irregular, so hard to be exact) - plus two WIRS and a nice big ensuite. But I have kids in their teens and 20s and like to escape from them ....especially when they and their mates take over the house. It boils down to what you'll use the room for. If it really is just for sleeping, then it seems silly to make it a large room when you might use the space better elsewhere. One thing to watch for is that you have enough room to walk around the bed without bumping into it. Our old room was 3.4 x 3.8 and we were always covered in bruises from the ends of the bed. That was partly due to the placement of the door though, which was smack in the middle of a wall and made placement of furniture tricky, not to mention negotiating a pathway to the WIR or ensuite. So have a good look at doors and traffic flow before you make a final decision - an extra 500mm or just moving a door might make a big difference. Re: Whats the size of your master bedroom? 8Apr 08, 2010 11:14 pm Thanks Kek, I think by moving out to the eaves will give us just that little bit extra room. Perfect for a Queen bed with a big frame, wide bedsides and a couple of chests of drawers. Certainly not big enough if you want to incorporate a "retreat" type area, but a lovely bedroom.
