Our handover is coming up in first week of april. ::party::

Would really appreciate it if you guys can provide recommendations on movers in Melbourne.

Also, I wouldn't mind knowing which ones to avoid.

Thanks.

Did you get any recommendations as we too are after advice for Melbourne.

I think I saw someone recommend minimovers but they are on an hourly rate and concerned about how they might go slow or are they a good firm?

Thanks,
Dale.

Well I didn't get any recommendations so we ended up going with peter sadler as another forumite here had recommended. They were also on an hourly rate but were quick and professional.

Also, in order to save us some time (and money) on the day of the move, we moved a lot of smaller stuff and boxes ourselves over the weekend prior to the move.

Just keep in mind that they also charge you for the drive back to their depot, so if you are moving to the eastern suburbs they might not be the best option for you as you will be paying them for another extra hour (we had to pay for half an hour).

Hi,

Have just rung them and they are getting back to me with a time for a quote. We are moving to Gisborne by the way.

Thanks for the other post Mike - they sound very professional.

Dale.

I have actually booked them as well, hope they are good

they only start charging from my current house and ending with a 15 minute return time from new house to the depot. So I take it what they mean for 'depot' is my current house, am i not correct? :th:

We ended not being charged for "depot" time...I was very organised...some might say anal... ...and they finished in far less time than what they thought. My impression was that they were able to get another small job done in the area...in any case they waived some part of the fee.

Has anyone used Stack Removals in Caulfield? They advertise on this site (H1) and I've spoken with them and they sound excellent.

Will be getting a quote from Peter Sadler but also wondering on this other firm.

Dale.

Stack removals was the cheapest quote i got. However, being a skeptic I decided to go for a mid-level quote. I believe you get what you pay for and to save a couple of hundred I didnt want backpackers moving my stuff.

But then again they might be an exception and provide excellent serivice, its just that it was a risk I wasn't willing to take. :)

I used fragile removals last time, and have booked them for my move again this time.

They quoted something like $96 p/h for 2 men and truck.
http://www.fragileremovals.com.au/

One of the cheaper ones I had found.

Hi Jaytyn 1 (or anyone else who may be able to help)

I'm thinking of using Fragile and wanted to get your feedback seeing you have used them once and will again. I have had the experience of booking a removalist before and ending up with backpackers. Are their trucks large enough for a move because they don't mention the size and I am hoping for it just to be one trip. Last company we used sent a 4T truck instead of a 6T (so two moves required which is okay, just a bit extra travel time) and two backpackers.

So any information would be welcome or any other recommendations. I don't want a large moving company because it is just a move in the same suburb, but I do want someone who will be careful because this move is into our new house.

Thanks

Hi Guys, ...

any other recommendations? I need to move next week. Already got one guy to come and quote and his price was over $1K. Did not expect that. He called me 2 mins later and said he could take $100 off the offer. Makes me think they just make up a number.... trust factor very low. He also warned me not to use a company that charges a fixed rate per hour.

:?

I have just had 2 quotes... to move about 30kms away the contents of a 3 bedroom unit.... between 900 and 1000 :(

I think this is 2 much and will look at doing it myself.... a truck with lift on the back for 1 day $200.... cases of beers for some mates to help out $100 = $300 saving me $600 odd.

You can get it cheaper than that as well. Just make sure you get the good fridge moving trolley, and have heaps of rope and blankets.

My Dad moved in Jan and got Epping Removalists (I think that's who!) to do the job and was a pretty good price, I will probably use them too.

With needing to unpack everything and then clean this rental I am more than happy to pay someone to move it all for me... I hate moving!!! ::angry:: ::angry::

I ended up using E.W Hogan and wish I hadn't. They were terrible!!! ::angry::

Two of the biggest brain dead beat bogans you will ever meet did the move. The guys were slow and did not care about what they moved or how they stacked it. The two of them talked so much crap all day, I ended up helping them get the stuff off the truck to get the job done quicker. One of the idiots damaged the trees on the foot path when he was parking the truck and then one of the neighbours came out complaining.

Still counting all the broken bits and pieces. I had a thumping headache by the end of the day. ::dizzy::

I used Fragile Removals a few weeks ago but was not very impressed. To start with they were late, they called at the time they should have been arriving to say they were going to be another hour and a half. They were then supposed to follow my parents up the highway who were going to lead them in to my brothers property where the rest of my furniture had been stored. Unfortunately they forgot to keep following and the reason why they couldn't take that exit and turned off which meant there was more time lost and a lot of backtracking. There is a railway bridge near his property which the truck couldn't fit under and you need to go 2 exits further up the highway and come in from a different direction. They ended up not finishing until 8pm which makes it a very long day and I didn't feel like starting unpacking at that time. Wouldn't recommend them or use them again.

Just thought I'd come in and give some feedback on the removalists we used. We ended up going with Chapmans Removals in Bundoora, and they were sensational. They were quick, efficient, very careful, reasonably priced and were terrific around our children. We will be using them again when we move into our new home.

Just a warning to anyone considering using Stack Removals. DON'T USE THEM!!

The service is terrible, they sent backpackers who damaged a lot of our stuff and now the owner/manager won't return my calls!!

I wuld also NOT recommend Fragile Removals - we had used them once and were fast and efficient, so booked them again but were **** - late, didn't speak english, wrapped things that didn't need to be wrapped (bedside tables???) but NOT wrapped TV's?? (we quickly took them off them and moved them ourselves!) They forgot to put the couches on til last, took apart a baby's walker and lost all the pieces, took apart my daughters toddler bed that didn't need to be taken apart and lost all the screws, damanged a bag and didn't tell us, just hid it under stuff, took lunch breaks after 1hr of moving - I ended up calling the boss and complained so he called the workers and yelled at them so they moved slightly quicker but not much. When we finally got to new house they just dumped everything in the garage, didn't even attempt to bring it inside!!

we ended up having to do about 10 car trips with our wagon to move the stuff we didn't trust them with.

i've called the owners numerous times and they are always busy and wont return my calls.
