What to attach eave brackets to?

Hey gang,

Undertaking a full house reno on an old Victorian weatherboard house. Currentl replacing all the weatherboards and looking at fitting eave brackets similar to the image attach all the way around. I’m a little stuck on what timber to use on the external wall to attach them to. They’d need to been 270-300mm wide depending on what bracket I choose, so I’m tipping I’ll have to rip something to size, and thickness no more than 30mm. Any ideas or someone done something similar? Thanks!

Putting in the solid board will add an extra detail at the top of the wall that the brackets fix to and the weatherboards stop at.

Or you pull the wall wrap back and trim between your studs everywhere you are going to put a bracket, rewrap and fix your brackets to the trimmers and then continue your weatherboards up and scribe them around the brackets and continue to fix them up to eave height. You could just fix a bracket to each stud but you will need something to fix your weather boards to.

The second method is more work in installing and also gapping and sealing, but your brackets then look like they seamlessly appear.

Personally I'd put the solid losp board as a starter at the top and fix your brackets to that. The added detail will look good and it's an easier job.

Cheers mate! This is exactly what I was thinking but wasn't sure if it was something I'd find on the shelf. I agree with you, fixing the brackets to the board will look much better and much easier to do.
