Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 240May 25, 2017 7:10 am Ah the joys of acreage living.... So far it's been fantastic. The extra space in particular in the yard and in the size of our house is exactly what we wanted and exactly why we decided to move and build in the first place. There are only a few street lights throughout the estate so at night time when the sky is clear you can actually see the stars. It really is quiet peaceful. The only real downside about acreage living we have had so far was when we got the rain from the cyclone. We lost power for 24 hours which meant that the HSTP system wasn't pumping. We quickly realised that we will need to buy a generator for any other potential power outages in the future. Also, all that rain meant that the roads leading in and out of Jimboomba were flooded and we got cut off from the rest of the world for a good two days. It was fine, we had plenty of food etc, but some people were acting like the apocalypse was nigh and so Coles and Woolworths were completely cleaned out. Our next door neighbours on the other side have finally started to build. So for the past three weeks we have been woken up at 6am on the dot by the digger and cement trucks and carpenters putting up the frame. I don't mind because thats the time my alarm goes off and they don't really work on the weekend. Another thing I will say is that everything takes a lot longer than you would think because everything is bigger. We have been working on transforming our front yard for the past few months and still don't have turf. Its likely going down next weekend, so I will take some photos then and put them up. We put garden beds down both sides of the fence and have put a huge figure 8 garden bed at the front which took FOREVER. We purchased the blocks from the local landscaping yard and then laid them ourselves to keep down costs. You also need more of everything as well. More trees, more soil, more compost etc. So landscaping has so far been one very costly endeavour. Once the front is done we will have to concentrate on the back..... Oh god, it's just so muddy out there around the house. Anytime it rains even a little bit it causes the soil around the house to become all sludgy and the dogs feet get caked in it. I haven't seen the alfresco tiles clean once since we moved in!! Our acreage build: Queensland: Stroud Homes 1 4911 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 20235 3 52186 |
