Browse Forums Building A New House building with ......... our experience 10Feb 18, 2009 8:37 pm we were all the way through to contracts with them before we pulled out. I didn't really want to lose the money we had already put down but I'm confident of being better off in the long run.
Don't get me wrong our experience with then was good, the Sales guy was good, price was excellent response to all our questions and info provided was more than adequate. Where we had a problem was the fact that they make no mention of any other houses they're building in the area near yours, I know they dont have to but I would have preferred to know they were building 5 of the same design as us within a 300m radius. We were going to build the Ballina 43 with them, until we found out that the house across the road was going to be a Ballina, one just around the corner, another one a few doors down etc etc. This mighn't be a big deal to many people but it was for us. Other than that the only advice I could pass on regarding them is once the build starts stay on top of them regarding progress. I know 6 people who have built with them and they have all said the same thing when we asked them. I just wondered whether they used the extra-strong timber. That blue stuff you see around the place. The blue stuff you see is actually steel and yes that is much stronger In my estate which only has about 40 lots, the people going with Clarendon have already had their house start being built first. So I dont know if thats a sign but in Qld at least I haven't heard many complaints about them. I always thought it was thick timber. well i dont feel like im getting ripped off in the timber department now. Thanks. In our area all the other builders have begun and have their signs up. No Cl... around so im confirdent we are the only one in the estate. In regards to keeping on top of them and making sure all is well. Im pretty sure I can handle that. Its my dream house. I will be super excited even when they put a sign up so I will def keep on top of them through the process. In a polite and professional way of course. Honestly, I have had a really good experience with them so far. Hope it continues through the building process. Re: Building a Clarendon Home 13Feb 18, 2009 9:04 pm Displays will always look as good as possible because they are trying to sell you something..... but your actual build quality will always depend on your tradies, SS etc. That's just my opinion though. _________________ Hoping to get DA in soon ..... waiting waiting waiting.... You are absolutely right. Does anyone know if Clarendon have their own builders or do they use subbies?? Fingers Crossed you get your DA soon!! Re: Building a Clarendon Home 14Feb 21, 2009 7:36 am Hi there, good luck, seems some have a good experience and some not so good, if you get a good cso and ss you should have no problems.
The tradies are all subies, our tradies have been great, very fast and they are doing a good job so far. It usually seems to be the lack of co-ordinationt in the office that gets people grumpy with them. We had 5 months of delays just to get a stormwater easement on our DP certified that we have the rigfht to drain into it, even though our existing hause had for 50 years. 5 months of time wasted and in the end we hired a lawer just to get that sorted out, took him 1 week and did not know any more than we already did. Also our council building approval only took 6 weeks, the council was the easy part. After signing up in December 2007 they did'nt start anything until the end of 2008, still have no idea when they will finish. They said when we signed up that we "had every chance of being in by Christmas", they just did'nt say which yea, we assumed 2008, geez were we wrong. Anything they promise get in writing also, keep copies of all correspondance with them including emails and the like. To be honest we would never do this again. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry to hear it took so long. So far they have been good with us. We signed our contract in december. They then closed for xmas first week back we did our colour selection and all plans etc have been sent to the bank and they have given clarendon the all clear to go ahead. They will be starting works on our site in about 3 weeks. But after hearing of your plight. Im worried that may not be the case!! I have been keeping all correspondence from them. Record of emails and phone calls and even recorded phone calls. After reading a lot of reviews and details on this forum i thought it would be best to have everything . How did you find their workman ship?? Clarendon 16Feb 21, 2009 7:44 pm We just spoke with people at the other end of our street that built with Clarendon and they were very happy with their build. Hopefully we will have the same result.
May I add that our Tender presenter, Colour Consultant, and our Client Services Officer have all been fantastic. So let's hope that continues. Our CSO is responding immediately, efficient and has done and answered everything we have asked of her. MAYBE WE ARE JUST LUCKY? Just thought I would pass that on as there are so many unfortunate experiences that it's nice to be able to say otherwise. Let's hope the build goes just as well...I am a stickler for good service but I am also very happy to give credit when it is due. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Building a Clarendon Home 17Feb 24, 2009 12:14 pm I love to hear from people that are having a good experience with c.......................... I hear so many bad stories. I keep thinking to myself " I cant just be the only one with no troubles"
Its eases my mind to know that other people are having a good experience too!! I hope everything goes well for you Keep us posted on your progress. Cl@rendon advised they should be on site at our block in about 3-4 weeks. So Ill post pics as soon as site starts. Cant wait. Its really happening Re: Building a Clarendon Home 18Feb 17, 2011 8:32 am hey mate, we are planning to build a house from clarendon... we have spoken to the sales man and considered the basic features because of the price.. they showed us a house which has all basic features and seemed nice. Also, ive been told to make sure that the wood frames have the extra termite coating or protection. Am not sure if it comes with it or maybe you have to pay for it. cheers, It is Genneral stairs, but they won't deal with anyone off the street.
