I agree vaccaro should do a proper job and terminate all connection points instead of leaving them bare. It's such a ridiculous install. It's like buying a car without the electrical cables connected to the motor. @Orph Build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Home Furniture: viewtopic.php?t=80551 Technology Hub: viewtopic.php?t=83663 Landscape Design: viewtopic.php?t=80645 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 1249Mar 16, 2017 10:18 pm Yep if you don't terminate on plates it's just unfinished cable hanging out of the wall! If you're going to terminate this cable yourself, please note there's a difference in Cat 5e and Cat 6 cable! For the novice like me, Cat 6 is much trickier to terminate so make sure you get the correct RJ45s- with a sledge and liner. And get a decent cable tester, crimping tool and scissors- inexpensive but will save hours of frustration! I've got it down to 10 minutes per termination now, pretty good. If you're not looking for gigabit performance though, for AV for example, a patch panel is easier to terminate to. Just need to punch down then! Ps Australian standard seems to be 568a but 568b is better for more up to date installations. https://youtu.be/w6QFiUd73Jg Re: Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 1250Apr 03, 2017 10:02 pm Hi Vista, just a quick question - where did you end up terminating your Cat6 cables? Is your router also the source of your wifi? Just trying to figure out whether my router needs to be centrally placed in the house so that I can get good wifi signal everywhere. Cat 6, Cat 6a, CCTV, speaker cable, telephone cable, Foxtel and NBN. Here's the rack with a patch panel at the top, and you can see the cables coming out of the rear wall. I've now terminated all cables. The rack is on a swing door ( half open position shown) so it's easy to access cables and the rear of components and the patch panel. I will post more up to date pictures next weekend when I get home if you like? That's my Optus router hanging by its cable after Optus installed my cable internet. Also, I installed extra Cat 6 in the ceiling in 3 rooms for a mesh WiFi system to give 100% wireless around the house and garden. https://store.ubnt.com/ Turns out I don't need it, the Optus box gives me almost full signal strength throughout the house. Haven't tried by the pool yet though. In the past 4 weeks alone; 1. I've installed our hub in a server rack with a managed Gigabit network switch and patch panel 2. Commissioned our home network (hub in garage) 3. terminated 20 Cat 6 cables for hub 4. installed a CCTV system with 8 cameras and NVR 5. Laid footings for a retaining wall 6. Laid concrete pad for a pool box 7. built a 4m retaining wall, concrete filled 8. painted nearly 100m of wall (up to 4m high) 9. Sealed driveway 10. Installed conduit for low voltage garden lights and house sign ...now back to work in my day job for a rest! Wow that is a lot!!! Hi Vista, so does that mean you have to provision a phone line or paytv cable in the rear of your garage so you can connect your modem depending on whether you are getting an ADSL or cable internet service? Cool thx Vista - guess we might have to speak with Vaccaro to see if they will do some changes for us whilst onsite. We went to check out audio today and although we initially didn't think we needed any speaker cabling, it looks like we might need some now for speakers (and also security cameras if we need them in the future) When you did your cameras research, did you consider the differences between a PoE one or wireless one? Both will need at least one cable from the camera right? Metricon Liberty 45, Ryde NSW http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 1258Apr 09, 2017 2:23 am PoE every time I think, also can future proof for 4K cameras. I've got 1080p viewing from all 8 cameras. HikVision NVR and 8 cameras being a mix of turret, dome and bullet types. Speaker cabling wise, we got 4 core cable as each speaker is a stereo speaker- as opposed to a set of two speakers with the main listening position being between the two (which is unlikely with sofa positioning etc). If you do the same, make sure you point this out to Vacarro because they acted like they'd never heard of such a thing when I asked! I schooled them and they charged me double for 4 core cable even though it's only 20% more. Also we had cable from media hub to individual speaker volume controls and then to the speaker in each room, so each speaker has an individual volume control as well as volume controllable via an app. On moving locations, make sure you're there when the guys do the first fix, much easier to point to exactly where you want stuff. I got several extra data and power at no extra charge. Re: Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 1259Apr 09, 2017 9:46 am Installed 7 of these speakers in the ceiling around the home and another 4 for the media room (ATMOS sound) http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/ ... -200/ct265 Re: Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 1260Apr 09, 2017 6:15 pm VistaDream Installed 7 of these speakers in the ceiling around the home and another 4 for the media room (ATMOS sound) http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/ ... -200/ct265 Thanks Vista, initially we wanted to go wireless for everything but there was no room in the rear of the family room to put speakers because of the stacker doors. So we went to check out a few audio shops that recommended we put some speakers in the ceiling - 3 angled at the front and 2 in the rear, then an amp.. oh these audio thingys add up Metricon Liberty 45, Ryde NSW http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Hi, I am wondering if anyone has built with Montgomery in the last few years on the Northern Beaches?
