Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 226Feb 14, 2017 9:49 am PCI - complete!! Now I'm waiting for the final invoice and certificate thingy. Insurance is sorted. then I will submit it all to the bank and we should have keys sometime next week! PCI went really well. No major dramas found - just lots of painting touch ups. Our feature wall in the master bedroom hasn't been painted just yet either. We also had a few of the downlights that still needed bulbs to go in. The electrician is due to come back later today and sort that out though. Other than that all our other upgrades etc have been installed and are working. It was lovely to walk into the house and feel that ducted air con!! So lovely and cool. Going to make moving and unpacking in the qld heat a little bit easier! The cleaner is also due to come out this week on Thursday!!! The thing I've been looking forward to the most lately is finally seeing the tiles clean! Can't wait hahaha. There were only minor things to fix from PCI so handover happened quickly after. We didn't get a chance to really do anything after getting the keys though, had a vet appointment we had to get to and then hubby is away for work now until Friday arvo. Still, boxes are packed! We are ready to do the majority of the move this weekend so more pics to come! Do you have far to move your belongings? We are moving 5 minutes drive away. Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 235Feb 23, 2017 3:35 pm CONGRATS! Jord... Looks like a short and sweet build journey... I will read through your thread Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 236Feb 23, 2017 7:17 pm AJB Have fun moving in Jord. It will be me this time next week. Do you have far to move your belongings? We are moving 5 minutes drive away. Ha! I wish! It's about a forty minute round trip from our rental to the new place and back. That doesn't include the time it will take to get the boxes out and into the house. Luckily I've got lots of helpers lined up for this weekend with vans and Utes and the like. I'll keep count and see how many loads we end up doing hahaha Our acreage build: Queensland: Stroud Homes Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 237Feb 23, 2017 7:49 pm Ahh, a 45 min round trip Hmm, come to think of it.. we have a 40 min round trip from our place to our block too Good luck with the move!! Pics to come AND a full review of our build experience. 2 pieces of advice Ill give to anyone about to move into their completed home: 1) supervise all helpers - my husband and father took a load of things to the new house unsupervised including the fridge. They failed to empty the fridge before moving it.... needless to say the fridge looked like someone had thrown up in there and then closed the door. broken eggs... broken wine... pineapple.... it was disgusting. 2) get concrete or turf around the house as soon as possible. its rained. all. damn. week. that means that the site scrap that extended beyond the slab has turned into a thick cake batter sludge. our dog loves it.... but his muddy paws have destroyed the alfresco area. the tiles are COVERED in dirt. When its dry, its almost as bad because then a thin dust covers every surface. We've been in for almost three weeks now and this weekend will be the first weekend that I'm not working on the house all weekend. its been exhausting, but so worth it! Would love to see updated pics if you want to share, as well as any stories about acreage living. I need to live vicariously while we are waiting for ours lol Re: Acreage Build: Jimboomba - Stroud Homes - Kentucky 304 240May 25, 2017 7:10 am Ah the joys of acreage living.... So far it's been fantastic. The extra space in particular in the yard and in the size of our house is exactly what we wanted and exactly why we decided to move and build in the first place. There are only a few street lights throughout the estate so at night time when the sky is clear you can actually see the stars. It really is quiet peaceful. The only real downside about acreage living we have had so far was when we got the rain from the cyclone. We lost power for 24 hours which meant that the HSTP system wasn't pumping. We quickly realised that we will need to buy a generator for any other potential power outages in the future. Also, all that rain meant that the roads leading in and out of Jimboomba were flooded and we got cut off from the rest of the world for a good two days. It was fine, we had plenty of food etc, but some people were acting like the apocalypse was nigh and so Coles and Woolworths were completely cleaned out. Our next door neighbours on the other side have finally started to build. So for the past three weeks we have been woken up at 6am on the dot by the digger and cement trucks and carpenters putting up the frame. I don't mind because thats the time my alarm goes off and they don't really work on the weekend. Another thing I will say is that everything takes a lot longer than you would think because everything is bigger. We have been working on transforming our front yard for the past few months and still don't have turf. Its likely going down next weekend, so I will take some photos then and put them up. We put garden beds down both sides of the fence and have put a huge figure 8 garden bed at the front which took FOREVER. We purchased the blocks from the local landscaping yard and then laid them ourselves to keep down costs. You also need more of everything as well. More trees, more soil, more compost etc. So landscaping has so far been one very costly endeavour. Once the front is done we will have to concentrate on the back..... Oh god, it's just so muddy out there around the house. Anytime it rains even a little bit it causes the soil around the house to become all sludgy and the dogs feet get caked in it. I haven't seen the alfresco tiles clean once since we moved in!! Our acreage build: Queensland: Stroud Homes 1 4911 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 20236 3 52186 |
