Yay Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 10Sep 08, 2016 3:41 pm What's people's thoughts on panel blinds ? They are pretty expensive . Unsure if I should get a panel blind like this on the sliding door out to alfresco or a split roller blind Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 12Sep 08, 2016 3:45 pm skinders78 What's people's thoughts on panel blinds ? They are pretty expensive . Unsure if I should get a panel blind like this on the sliding door out to alfresco or a split roller blind Our blinds guy said they were going out of fashion & they were also easy to wreck - especially with young kids. We've got split roller blinds on our two sliding doors. If I had the chance to do it again, I would do one full length roller blind in blackout fabric and then split rollers in privacy screen underneath (as it stands now we only have the split privacy screens on the sliding doors). He also mentioned that he doesn't like doing a reverse roll, he had a good reason for not liking it but I can't remember now. For the price of 1 panel blind I can get really nice fabric and get both sliding doors in that price ! That's a brilliant idea so to have the privacy screen split and the block out as a full one ? Thanks I'm so confused with what to get ! Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 14Sep 08, 2016 4:04 pm skinders78 We have young kids megera so might be best to leave out the panel blind! Thanks I'm so confused with what to get ! Learn from our experience with living with our blinds for the last 7 months haha Get the privacy screens mounted on the inside of the frame and then the blackout mounted on the outside (just like how you would do it in the bedrooms). If you split your blackout you are still going to get light between the split (it's about two finger widths, so not insignificant!) so I guess it depends on how you want it to look. We would definitely get it all as one if we ever get one put in afterwards since we figure when we want the blackout down we want as much privacy/darkness as possible and we would probably only ever have the whole thing up or down, we wouldn't ever have the blackout half up/half down like with the screens. You'll likely need a booster in the blackout to help it roll up/down without being a weightlifter and that may cost a little more - it is worth it. We had a few people come and do quotes and the guy we went with (family friend as it turns out) was really honest with us about what works/what doesn't colours/etc where everyone else was going to do whatever we wanted and didn't have opinions like on what side the chains normally go on/etc. I wanted someone to tell me my idea was rubbish if it was! haha (like I had wondered about splitting the laundry blind and he told me that was a silly idea haha). If you can, go with the nicer fabric that is white on the outside facing bit rather than the same colour on both if you are going for a dark colour. We wanted to avoid having excess heat drawn into the house with dark outside facing blinds. Also, we went with a light grey for our privacy screens instead of cream/off white like I wanted because cream/off white is really glare-y when the sun shines on it. The grey can be a big glare-y as it is so I'm glad we went a touch darker otherwise we might've needed sunnies inside during certain times of the day haha (our blackouts are elements/midnight storm and the screens are optimascreen plus/grey, bevelled edge rails in silver) We built the Rathdowne with Simonds Express in Western Melbourne Site start Oct. 2015 Keys Jan. 25th, 2015 My build thread -here- Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 16Sep 08, 2016 8:22 pm Thanks so much for all the tips ! I will have a look through some of your posts to see if I can get some more ideas Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 17Sep 08, 2016 10:02 pm Love the split blinds, but with a full black out, i think that's what we'll do Building Simonds Hudson viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80646 Re: Simonds express Westbury Beckett facade 18Sep 09, 2016 7:39 pm I'm going to have 3 pendant lights over our kitchen island bench anyone have any ideas?
