The purpose of my showing that painting, is that it's the same style you see in all those 'canvas' shops, that they want to charge you $200 for - it is not hard - you tube has a great community of artists giving lessons for free. Lots of paint-a-long stuff. This cost me $17 for the canvas and $15 in paint, with plenty left over. I couldn't find my palette knives, so I used two different size paint scrapers and a sideways credit card for the widest 'buildings'. That and a couple of hours including drying time. If you like that type of art for decorative purposes - DIY! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 113May 29, 2016 9:39 am I was curious to know if I had a drain in my laundry because I too think this a necessity, on my floor plan there is FW in the laundry does this mean I have a drain in the laundry? FW is the bathrooms so I gathered this means yes? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 114May 29, 2016 10:48 am Sounds like it Charlibear. Thanks for the flapjack tips ? that painting is beautiful! It's so much more interesting and special when the art on the walls is your own or from a family member ? We signed off on the variations, and are still waiting to receive the corrected plans. I'm over the whole thing, and just want it to be over... on a lighter note, I found some ideal Moroccan/Indian style large pierced metal candle holders. They are about half the size of an old fashioned milk can from the dairy farms, and have a lovely floral pierced metal pattern. They were on sale at $10 each, so I bought 4 for the retreat. I can convert 2 to pendants and 2 to table lamps, so that's the retreat taken care of! The batten fix pendant converters are $15 each and about $1.50 worth of homemade chalk paint and $2 worth of water based varnish gives me two pendants at a total cost of $53.50. Two table lamp bases at $20 each, and the same amount of paints which will give me two matching table lamps at $63.50. That's without the cost of the knockout punch to make the hole through the metal in what would otherwise be the glass cylinder tray/candle plate, the time for painting and turning them upside down (15 mins and 3 seconds respectively) and my energy expended in admiring my own bargain hunting skills. I think I done good. I have to say that the $10 bag of whiting I invested in for DIY chalk paint has paid for itself thousands of times over, as I have a truly unlimited colour range with it. Awesome value. After this place is done, it will be at least 20 yrs before I think about redecorating. I am soooo over thinking about this stuff. And then my hubby, walking around saying 'you love it really'... "Seaford Rise Woman Slays Husband with Paint Scraper" Headlines. Mum liked her painting and we still have to let the varnish smell dissipate before we can hang it. We held it up and it goes well in the space, so at least I got the colours right. Lucky! How's everyone doing? L Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 120Jun 13, 2016 8:10 pm Wow what a fabulous idea, you will have to show us when you've finished them. We too have been looking at lighting, I can't believe how incredibly expensive some of the pendant lights are. We're starting to buy things for the house now, I hope we don't jinx ourselves.
