We did a tour of Studio M on the weekend, wondering if we should go back this Sat just to have another quick look before our contract appointment where we have to choose the external finishes. But I have a question - did anyone go with tinted windows? What was the cost like? We had a mobile tinter come out after handover. They did two windows in the living area where we didnt want blinds so we could see the pool and landscaping. They also frosted the glass panels on our front door. To frost the frint door and tint two very large windows was $1k. Thanks Shambini, but I am looking at the glass itself being tinted, rather than adding a tint later that can be scratched up by kids and pets and bubbles over time (especially in the hot QLD weather). Waiting on Studio M to get back to me with price. Figure its a good idea to cut costs on cooling. Hi Guys, Just joined the thread - love it! We are building the Soho 32, in Maitland/Newcastle NSW, Waterford County estate. Due to start the build in August and internal selections coming up at the end of July. Thanks Jazz_d for the tip above will definitely be doing this! In the middle of navigating flooring & tiling choices. We took the flooring package out but are able to add it back in if needed - it works out at about $15K to do polished porcelain tiles 600x600 and carpet ourselves just in the main areas and about $17,500 with Metricons package...maybe the convenience of having it done before handover is worth the extra? And to upgrade bathrooms to porcelain we are looking at about $5K on top....too many decisions!!! Has anyone upgraded to Category 3 Caesarstone? Interested in the approximate cost? Also we are on the old Hot Right Now promo and have taken up the Hebel option... Have a great Friday! Re: Building with Metricon 50Jul 03, 2015 8:34 pm Hi justmelwoo, congrats on getting everything started with your build, the floor plan for the soho is really lovely, good use of space, have you changed much? Regarding the flooring, we kept it all in contract to Metricon as it is easier for us at hand over than trying to deal with 500 jobs and a heap of kiddies. I would take your quote from the cheaper place along to your flooring appointment and ask them to match it, we did that and got a great deal. Have you done your internal colour selections? Can't help with the cat 3 stone sorry Good luck Re: Building with Metricon 51Jul 04, 2015 1:31 pm Great advice @Tribe7 re: taking the cheaper quotes in to negotiate. I do like the idea of getting the keys to a house with floors done! We've changed a little bit on the plan we turned the walk in robe into a study and pulled the main bedroom out wider to reconfigure walk in robe and ensuite and have gone with the version with the kids activity room included and added heaps of storage. The challenge was that we got pretty far through the process and as our land was still being developed we found out that we had to chop 75cm off the length of the house so have made some rooms wider and shorter to compensate - it was a bit hectic but I'm comfortable with the outcome - I'll post our plans shortly - doesn't seem to be many people building Soho's on Home one! But I am learning heaps from those who are further along the Metricon journey! Our internal appointment is later this month - I'm excited to have a deadline for making those choices it's doing my head in! Lol Taking the cheaper quote in worked for us, we do our flooring appointment at our colour selection, not sure if it's the same for you guys. Having the floors done at hand over was a must for us, we have a huge list of after hand over jobs to do and 5 kiddies. That's good you got all your plans sorted though but painful you had to chop some length off your home. Adding a study is a good idea, extra spaces are a good thing. I know what you mean about having to chop the plans up we had to make our home 6 beds and our sales rep was fantastic. Did you get to go through a soho display home? We are the same no one else is building a Rialto either . Good luck with your colour appointment, I stalked m studio for weeks leading up to our appointment and added all the things we wanted into our preliminary contract so we knew how the budget was going. Electrical appointment is the scary one. Looking forward to seeing your plans. We will be locked up soon and it's really exciting to see it all taking shape. Re: Building with Metricon 53Jul 05, 2015 8:41 am There's a Soho on display in Newcastle which helps a lot! Families with 5 kids are awesome (I'm one of 5) always a party but hard to fit in a house lol! I have 3 boys 8, 10 and almost 12 so they are excited to be getting a bedroom to themselves in our new home! Has anyone got thoughts or had experience with the appliances provided by M? In our package we can chose Technica or Elba by Fisher & Paykal...has anyone had any experience with this? Not a lot of reviews available? We are considering upgrading to Fisher & Paykal or Smeg to keep it under M's umbrella still - we get the freestanding oven in the package...? How cool you are one of 5. Yes it's always loud and busy but gosh they have fun. Your boys will be thrilled with there own rooms. We stuck with the technika free standing cooker and range, good guys up here are now selling it so I went and asked what it was like as a brand and they said really good. That's a great floor plan and heaps of storage, good size robes in your boys bedrooms too. Your main bedroom reconfiguration is way nicer than the standard one. Really like the bath along the window in the main bathroom too. Bring on August so you can get started. Hope you start your own thread. Re: Building with Metricon 55Jul 05, 2015 9:31 pm Our new neighbors have 7 children... and from what I have been told - they are very loud I think it will be nice to have noisy kids around!!! We upgraded to the Bertazzoi range - for the oven, Fisher and Paykel would have cost same or more anyway; and we liked the cooktop. But rangehood - we stuck to Fisher and Paykel - Bertazzoni was $2,400 :O We don't like upright... so changed it to cooktop / oven. It is great you have the Smeg option - I think it is a better brand than F&P. Is Smeg a new addition to M's suppliers? We got the upright 900mm cooker too, I've seen terrible reviews on the Technika range but meh, once it is out of warranty we can always upgrade. It's really nice to hear them playing, it's when they go quite the trouble starts. We did the opposite and are going from a gas cook top and oven to a free standing cooker. I think smeg is apart of the range up here I can't remember to be honest.
