Has anyone installed a cavity sliding door themselves, if so how was it done? Thanks Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: Cavity Sliding Doors 2Dec 07, 2008 8:37 pm Haven't installed one and wont either it's a messy job.
Some of the steps involved (i think so anyway) 1. Remove plaster 2.mostlikely remove multiple studs and noggins (are they load bearing? you will have to find out) 3. put in frame, insert door 4. Re-plaster a fairly large area at least three square metres worth (done it before small jobs are easy to do but damn thats a fair area and ** job will show) 5. Re-paint Unless you have knowledge/eperience in plastering and knowledge about walls ect don't do it. I have done some plastering and installing windows and didn't find it a problem but I wouldn't attempt to put a in-cavity door in. Outside cavity no probs thou. Re: Cavity Sliding Doors 5Dec 08, 2008 8:12 am Hi,
I have recently put in a sliding cavity door in my bathroom. it was a pain but really not that hard to do. I can see where ausfatcat is comming from but isn't renovating all about trying what you can do. if your not comfortable doing the plastering yourself then get someone in to do it, it's not really a large space that will need replastering. Anyway here is my thread with some pics. I say give it a go, it has opened up our bathroom floor space considerably. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=11372 If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Fields Brought Established. cavity door 6Dec 08, 2008 11:18 am My husband installed a cavity door in our current laundry. It didn't seem to difficult. (well not me anyway ) I can ask him for info if you need it. They are great space saver, only problem was the fingers jamming.....ouch..we are planning one in the Powder Room of our new house to save space so as to add a shower in there. Re: Cavity Sliding Doors 7Dec 08, 2008 12:18 pm if it does look too hard, you could just install a slider that just slides back against a wall, but not into a cavity... sounds easier anyway! No plaster removal etc. Although you would lose that wall space to put furniture against. Re: Cavity Sliding Doors 8Dec 09, 2008 7:04 am thanks everyone for replys!!!!

as i say, new house. cavity sliding doors into the very small toilet. went to use the toilet, door was in the whole way so i flipped the latch thing and pulled the door to come out.. was shocked when it made this horrible nails on a blackboard screeching sound !! the door came out with a massive scrape/gouge out of the middle. Turn out the door had been installed, then opened up the whole way and someone had come along and screwed the toilet roll holder on the inside wall with some screws just long enough to touch the door in the cavity ! and when i pulled on it they gouged the door and ruined it ! the home owner couldnt work out how i found it funny.. ! we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3655 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall.
