Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 221Mar 07, 2015 10:10 pm There was, from my perspective great progress on bricks. But, also challenging and goes with my comment about right hand not talking to the left hand. Due to the boundary wall problem that I have which will be fixed but not right now. Also, a bit of common sense helps... they've had to take off some of the roof trusses to assist the brickie in completing his work. Now I understand why that is the case but you would think the guys who put up the frames would also have thought about it. Clearly not as straight forward when the trades come and go at different times during your build. Not blaming any of them and sometimes timing is very important to keep the ball rolling without delays. the PVC shielding i was on about in a prior post on termite protection, another black shielding material is laid on top of that before the second course of bricks go on. this is me standing in the front room without the roof trusses and bedroom 2's window finally installed the wall in the alfresco technically is complete but I think it keeps going up from here (if you can find my prior posts without bricks looking onto the alfresco it gives you an idea on how it is all put together with drop edge beams etc all the roof trusses taken off the room next to the alfresco and cast aside front part of the house but now roof trusses gooooone Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 223Mar 08, 2015 8:40 pm DG85 What colour r ur bricks deluded? There nice DG85 ... they are the same bricks that you have selected in your build Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 224Mar 08, 2015 8:46 pm Nice progress especially given the unfortunate hold up over the boundary fence. You guys must be relieved to see action onsite. I just don't want any headache with the neighbour so really stuck between a rock and a hard place... based on their progress I reckon most of that street facing side wall will be completed by Tuesday (ground level) at the latest. the front and the other side should be mostly done by Friday ... which doesn't leave me with much time to get the fencing mob to come in and get rid of the wall with minimal damage to anything! .. Can't wait to see the wooden support for the garage beam gone and to be able to visually see how wide the garage is. Blog | http://ourhudson.wordpress.com Build thread | viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72159 the week of the 16th March ... and I've just got word that the fencing guys are happy to split the work ... removal and some posts where it won't be in the way and then come back afterwards to put up the fence.. now to call the site supervisor to organise temp fencing in the morning Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 229Mar 12, 2015 5:17 pm and so now I'm hassling you for your photos Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 230Mar 12, 2015 5:22 pm yvonneh and so now I'm hassling you for your photos patience young lady ... I'm writing the readers digest version for this update and waiting for the pics to upload to photobucket. hahaha Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 231Mar 12, 2015 5:43 pm Visited the property today before the dark grey clouds blocked all the sun. Had been at the property late last night and had noticed that the sand for the cement was pretty much depleted. They had also delivered the metal panels that sit above the windows for bricks to continue over the height of the windows. So did the daytime visit today and noticed a lot of work done. Unfortunately, it is on the other side and my hedge plant (murraya) and the disputed fence wall pretty much blocked the view. The last little bit for the initial course of bricks is at the front of the house at the rumpus room after that it is scaffolding to go up. They have fixed up the meter box onto the frame Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ news to me but these look like the concrete steps I will have for my laundry section! Now to call the SS to see if I can have bricks for the walls (not really a big thing but might as well have it flow with the house). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Oh they also delivered a fresh lot of sand today Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It's good to see that progress has been made, but really feel bad for the brickie because it is "so" tight down that side of the house at the moment. Hope the bricks are still straight! Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 232Mar 12, 2015 6:02 pm So I took a driveby to Kellyville and sat in the Sienna display home and just imagined where things will be located and what we'll need to do as a matter of priority. I only took a few photos, mainly the living room where the fireplace will be located. As well as a photo of the void and the lighting requirements we would need. where the TV is will be where the fireplace will be located. Unfortunately, have found out on my property that the join is right in the middle so will cause problems which means may need to pay more for the metal tubes for the flue Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Their cornerless bifolds are at 2100mm high, while my stackers are at 2400mm high and the ceiling height for the ground floor is at 2600mm high. So the frame will be a lot closer to the living room ceiling. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The 5metre high ceiling/void. While we have 2 fans with an inbuilt LED light we're still trying to work out lighting for that area. 6 wall lights have been provisioned just need to find the right fixture. There are already 3 LED lights on the right of the photo just under the opening and another 2 LED lights (all in laboratory white) along the kitchen where the cook top will be. We've only got a small drop from inside to outside very similar to the photo but it will be tiles and not decking. We've got plans to put one of those suspended chairs (ones you see from those outdoor shops) in that corner between the window on the left and the outdoor door on the right. Reasonable light to be able to sit there and read a book Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 233Mar 12, 2015 6:06 pm Aww wow. Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 234Mar 12, 2015 6:13 pm cat_dunc Aww wow. It's going to look amazing. I seriously can't wait to see it all come together. If only we could all start our new houses with gorgeous matching furniture like the display homes! I know!! .. the furnishings will be expensive! .. got quoted plantation shutters ($10k!! only 17 windows and averaged over $500 per window! ouch!! we attended an Ikea seminar on wardrobes last night. Now I need to work out whether to tell SS to not bother with the cornice and skirting for the WIR or let them be and rip it up after so I can fit these wardrobes. The "carcass" as they called the shell of the wardrobe is 2360mm high. The ceiling is 2400mm so looks like alot of hacking, the plans show 3030mm wide so with skirting it is less but their wardrobes are 1000mm wide. Really struggle to fit it in. Ikea said the manuals now show how to install on the floor as well as have it standing. Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 235Mar 12, 2015 6:22 pm Wow deluded, your brick is looking great, had to drop in for the picks that you mentioned on Yvonne's thread and I am not disappointed! Feel a bit sorry for your brickie down that tight side of the house. Would do it again tomorrow but with weather my guess is they won't be turning up. I'll have to dig up the multiple versions of the tender to see how much it was for stackers and bi-folds I know it was more expensive over standard being cornerless etc... I'm really looking forward to be able to live in it! .. our to do list is growing even more with the realisation that it is progressing... The corner stackers and your void are just WOW! I'm trying to talk Nick into this swing chair for the alfresco. https://ourhudson.files.wordpress.com/2 ... 237065.jpg there were some lovely outdoor couches that was like something out of mork and mindy ... but we really wanted the alfresco to be an entertainment area so had to scratch that idea off. We also looked at sun shades for the street facing side of the alfresco .. and have worked out that the vertical tracked version won't work and the one with the stainless steel wire will. Why? because it allows some airflow on either side while the track won't, we won't need to pull the sun shade all the way down to the bottom as it is really for the sun while still getting the breeze (if any) and we already have a wall for privacy. Re: Alkira Homes "The Sienna" KDR Ryde (NSW) - bricks 239Mar 12, 2015 11:16 pm looking lovely deluded! The steps are a win! And I'm sure you will get enough bricks if they don't do it themselves!
