That said. I can BUT DONT !! use mains water when we legally can. It has cost us a bit of money to do all this, but if we are to buy grass, I dont want it gone wihtin a week due to lack of water. Greeat walls of stuff!!!!!!!!!!!! On the side of the fence we screwed painted Villaboard to protect the fence. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also started our water feature wall. This is made of besser blocks and will be another 2 courses on top of what you see here. Foundations are concrete, with rio and concrete filling to add strength. The next thing to go in was our retaining walls. We have used Boral Heathstone 400mm l x200mm h x 90mm d. they were about $4 each from Soilworx. Corner stones are also available. Thinking of doing something similar as planter box ? Is mortar required between them ? Thank you Re: How green is my Garden - HELP ME CHOOSE SOME PLANTS!!!!!! 16Nov 24, 2008 9:44 pm hysterical1144 Is it difficult to build that retaining wall ? Thinking of doing something similar as planter box ? Is mortar required between them ? Thank you The retaining wall was not hard to do, provided you think about what you need to do. if your foundations are not level, your retaining wall wont be either. Do the wall in batches to make sure you are not rushing arund. I dug the trench 300 deep by 400mm wide, then I borrowed a laser leveller, and hammeed in peices of timber every 2 metres, making sure they were at the level the foundations would be. This allewed me to screed the concrete using a very long peice of timber (3-4 metres) . Dont forget the rio rods as well. Grab a piece of trench mesh. Half fill the trench with concrete, drop in the mesh, more concrete and screen to level. As mentioned I let this cure for an hour until it could see it would take some weight. I set up a stringline and laid the first course of bricks, using liquid nails between them. I then hammered in RIO rods through the holes n the blocks. This meant the blocks bonde with the concrete, and the rio provides strength for the upper levels. I let this cure (aka I saved up for the next level of blocks) and put them on using landscaping liquid nails. This sucker is not moving I guarantee that. Awesome job. You've inspired me to keep at it thanks Karol, as mentioned it will have 140 mm merbau to cap the brickwork to make it work with the deck Adrian B Re: How green is my Garden - HELP ME CHOOSE SOME PLANTS!!!!!! 19Mar 10, 2009 9:33 pm Adrian B you did!! I like your washing tank idea. as Ive been wondering how to get the water from the washing machine on to the garden .I have those long hoses that connect to the washing machine pipes. Would love to be able to use the bath and spa water too instead of bucketing . How did you go about connecting it all up/ Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations.
