Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 29, 2014 10:37 am HI All im after some advise regarding lighting for a garage / workshop This garage has a pitch roof and is lined with sislation only......currently it has 3 or CFL which do a very poor job of lighting if you actually want to see anything Options as i see it are flouro fittings, or possible adding a number more bayonet fittings and using more of the philips LED globes? Any thoughts on this, also would you think its important to have the lights at the same level from the ground (so on droppers from the actually ceiling joists? Thanks Adrian Re: Garage Lighting 2Jun 29, 2014 11:19 am Flouro tubes are usually the better option for a garage, as you don't get the shadows from a single 'globe' light does. Of course these days the old 'flouro tube' is now made in a LED version that's much cheaper to operate. I would guess in a standard 6 x 6m garage, you could put 4 bayonet fittings with some LED globes in them, with a 'flouro' above any work benches, and all at around the 2400mm height. Perhaps even the 'flouro' hanging above the bench at 1900 to 2100mm height to maximise your lighting whilst working on a project on your benches. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Much better to post your photos on photobucket or similar and post the img links here. Google "lighting guides" - there are a few that give you how many sq m a light of a certain wattage will illuminate. I just gave "freakychick" the same advice in this thread... viewtopic.php?f=21&t=70779&p=1195196#p1195196 Instead of copying where it says "grab the link" copy where it says "grab the BBCode". Edit : There ya go. Done ! Edit 2: Here's a guide I picked up a while ago http://www.google.com.au/url?q=http://w ... xZZdhhYeqA for general in the home lighting. NSW Basix had one a while back although I don't have a link for it. I had a look at my neighbours place last night ( 6m x 6m garage ) and he has two double tube fluoros above each car with another single over his workbench at the rear switched separately. It was more than enough although I didn't check the wattage of each tube. Here is the BCA guideline http://www.build.com.au/bca-lighting-restrictions If you also look at that last link, down the bottom is another link to download the NCC Lighting Calculator http://www.abcb.gov.au/major-initiative ... calculator which is well worth a look at. It says it is a PC only Excel file but I've downloaded it and had it working on my Mac easily enough. Maybe some of the macro function are PC only ???
