We have a new SS who seems to be all over our build. All the external and internal grey float render has been completed. Your new SS wouldn't happen to be Tom would it? Our SS changed as well and that's who we got. He's been awesome so far. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 389May 04, 2014 1:52 pm No. We have a SS who lives quite locally. He worked for a big building company in the UK and obviously knows his stuff. The build is a hive of activity now compared to the previous couple of months that moved at glacial pace. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 390May 04, 2014 3:25 pm Heaps of progress. Looking good! We were very frustrated at the delays but it looks like they are making a real effort to catch up. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 394May 08, 2014 10:33 pm Hi. How did the house cope with the rain and winds last night? Did you have any leaks from the windows or upperfloor? I am considering BTH but still not sure about the EPS style of construction. Tks Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 395May 08, 2014 10:52 pm No leaks through the windows or cladding. A few through the roof because the colorbond and ridges aren't finished. Fortunately it doesn't look like the plasterboard or coving is damaged. What concerns have you got with EPS, uncle? It's used a lot in Europe and it rains there occasionally. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 396May 08, 2014 10:59 pm Thanks for your reply. My concern are a few: with occasional cyclonic winds, will the roof structure take off with all the timber frames and EPS as they are light. Also any debris blown about could puncture the wall like a branch blown by strong winds etc. I heard that a workman once slipped and the ladder hit the wall and dented it. They had to use render to fill the dent because it was too costly to remove the lower roof and replace the EPS panel . But I am hoping the outer wall of EPS by BTH is strong enough to withstand such punctures. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 397May 08, 2014 11:19 pm uncle Thanks for your reply. My concern are a few: with occasional cyclonic winds, will the roof structure take off with all the timber frames and EPS as they are light. We hope not! The frame is bolted to the upper storey slab and the roof is strapped to the frame. Guess it's exactly the same as any timber-framed build. uncle Also any debris blown about could puncture the wall like a branch blown by strong winds etc. It could. The render is 6-10mm thick if it's done properly. It's flexible but nowhere near as strong as brick. However, it would be difficult to go through the entire 75mm EPS panel. uncle I heard that a workman once slipped and the ladder hit the wall and dented it. They had to use render to fill the dent because it was too costly to remove the lower roof and replace the EPS panel . But I am hoping the outer wall of EPS by BTH is strong enough to withstand such punctures. To replace one EPS panel would be very expensive. The entire wall would have to be re-rendered as you can't patch the acrylic render. Re: Ben Trager - Secret Harbour- Grey float In & Out 399May 09, 2014 10:27 pm Thanks. Photo update tomorrow when the lighting is better.
