I've been watching & following everyone else's threads with great interest & sometimes with trepidation, waiting for the next disaster or disappointment . We will shortly be travelling the same way . I suppose it's about time, we started showing you....ours ! We're so close now to starting excavation, I guess I can atleast post a pic of the old place & show you the empty block.

A very nice looking demolition!!
The old place was an interesting looking style - was it some sort of special design?
Think it was called "oceanliner". Teh place was about 60 years old. We actually thought about renovating & extending because of the unusual style, but the structure was too far gone - serious cracking throughout the house. So down it came.
The neighbourhood knew it as 'the white house'. Haven't had any negative reactions yet from the neighbours.

Exciting times ahead Southies! I first thought the old place looked worth keeping, nice style, until you explained why. Get ready, get set and hopefully GO! full steam ahead. Bloody nice view bytheway

It looked like a not-real-good version of Streamline Moderne, but without a real lot of streamline! It often incorporated Oceanliner themes, complete with portholes in some cases. It is a latter day version of Art Deco, with the accent on horizontal lines instead of vertical, which was the main feature of the earlier (Inter-war) style. Here's a much better house in the Moderne style:

You didn't happen to take any interior photos before demolition did you?

There wasn't really anything of interest to take pictures of. The interior was rather uninteresting. Maybe some features had been ripped out years ago ?
It was very badly neglected. Such a shame.
Eager , I lurv that house - just gorgeous.
Thansk everyone for the well wishes. BTW, we're hoping for those views. Won't know until the house is built & we can get on to the front balcony.
If no views, no matter. We just love the area.

Sorry donuts ...the block is 650m2. Pretty good size for this area as most blocks are around 500m2.
We hung out for a long time waiting for a reasonably sized block because the building floorspace ratio is 45% & across the street, 40%. IN other words, the smaller the block, the smaller the house.

Beautiful spot Southies....I can't wait to see everything start it looks like an awesome block.
I am sure it feels real now that something has started.
Lovely view... I agree, often about location, location, location... We're the same, we love our area, but blocks are far and few between... luckily our council is 50/50! So we were about to squeeze our 30sqm on 495sqm!

Thanks everyone.....yep, it's starting to feel exciting now. And a little bit of anxiousness & impatience. Mixed emotions.
Just want to get this over & done with & get on with our lives. This is a totally new area for us, so we want to move in asap & get to know the community as soon as possible ! I think? Also, it took us a while to get this because someone has to pretty much die or move into a nursing home befroe a house is listed for sale Clarity, it was also about "location, location, locatoin" for us. Not so much the waterviews - that's a bonus, should it happen - but more importantly we'rejust a short walk to the train station. Afterall , we geriatrics won't be driving forever
