Thinking about putting a junction box in the kitchen instead of a light fitting as I want pendants and downlights in there. Had anyone else done this? does it work out cheaper? We have ours in a few weeks, also building with fairmonts. Im a little worried about the cost of upgrades. Im also trying to work out our electrical plan. How did you go with yours in the end? We would like pendant lights in the kitchen so interested in how you went about it. Re: Libbys Build - first home with fairmonts 15Dec 27, 2013 11:29 am Thanks for your interest guys Its all coming along very well, on the 9th Dec I rang fairmonts and was advised they would be starting late January due to only just receiving my final paperwork, council approval etc and with the Christmas break. So you can imagine my shock driving past my block, 2 day later, to see my site works has started. The guys worked flat out for 3 days and my slab was poured on monday 16th. So I'm very happy. I'm expecting frames might start mid January. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Carmen1828 Also interested in following your build, How did your selections go? We would like pendant lights in the kitchen so interested in how you went about it. Selections went well. Ended up spending a little more on upgrades than planned with a few extras I needed that I didnt know about. But it all went very smooth, I went in knowing what I wanted after visiting the showrooms a couple times before hand. My appointment took less than an hour I think. Iv got a grey and white colour scheme. Ill put up all the details later when I can find my paper work and Ill attempt to add a few pics of my selections too Electrical plan was really hard, just not knowing where to put lights and power points, I didnt want to spend a fortune on extra power points everywhere so just had to make my best judgement and hope that it'll be ok. Fingers crossed. For my pendent lights I ended up putting in 2x junction boxes (with switch wire) in the kitchen area, same cost as a light fitting. and ill probably get an independent electrician after handover to install my pendents and a few down lights in the kitchen. I don't know if this is the most cost effective way but it just worked out the easiest. Final builders interview was on 18th November, which all went pretty smooth. My biggest headache was choosing the internal paint colour which I still hadn’t decided on before going into the appointment. I ended up going with Winter Sky, I just hope it isn’t too creamy once in the house :/ My Build thread --- https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67313 Final Builders Interview - 18th Nov 13 Site Works - 11th Dec 13 Slab - 16th Dec 13 Frame - 7th Jan 14 Re: Libbys Build - first home with fairmonts 16Dec 27, 2013 11:51 am Wow that would have been a nice surprise to see the site works started before you expected! We are going with a black/grey and white theme with the bathrooms, from what we have seen in our visits to supreme/direct interiors so will be good to see what you have picked. sounds like we may have similar taste looks forward to seeing your pics. Is the junction boxes something you need to put on the electrical plan or does that get organised at the builders interview? Is the junction boxes something you need to put on the electrical plan or does that get organised at the builders interview? It was a great surprise I drew them on the electrical plan, but then discussed it again at my final builders interview. Alternatively you could get them to install regular batton fix light fittings and change them over later. I decided I wanted to supply my own down lights also and that's why I went with the junction boxes. Thanks for the photo. Looking forward to your frame. I agree the electrical plan and paint colours are the hardest. How to know exactly where a powerpoint is needed before being able to see the actual walls and surfaces. And the colour ... who knows what it's going to look like. Can only hope it all works out as we've envisioned it. Re: Libbys Build - first home with fairmonts 19Dec 27, 2013 10:31 pm no build thread yet, ive been putting off starting one as we had a bit of a rocky start to this whole adventure with issues with the land we were trying to purchase and then waiting for our house to sell. It is all happening now and starting to feel more real! I need to get my electrical plan back to them but the instructions were a little vague, as i wasnt sure if im only supposed to put the power points, tv points and light positions on there as they are the only symbols they give you to use or if we add all the extra things on there like down lights, ceiling fans , provision for pendant lighting etc. Waiting till they reopen from xmas break to work it out. didnt think it would be so complicated haha.
