Surprise footings.. 103Sep 03, 2013 9:48 pm I sent an e-mail to the liaison at BT this afternoon asking if the footings were going to be done this week. She replied that they were waiting for a beak in the weather before they started the footings. I drove home without doing a drive-by and my wife said that the site had been marked out. We decided to drive round to have a look and within 5 minutes a guy turned up in a bobcat to start digging out the footings. He said they were hoping to get the footings laid tomorrow. Yayus maximus! It came as a bit of a surprise. The block is not far from where we're renting so I've been doing drive-bys, almost every day, hoping for something to happen and the one day I was convinced nothing would happen, it did! It's starting to feel real now. Re: Ben Trager Secret Harbour. Surprise footings.. 109Sep 04, 2013 12:00 am Great News. We are definitely on the same timeline. Our site setout and trenches were done Saturday (as nothing had happened by Friday). Drove past yesterday morning and plumbing was going down. After school pick up yesterday, footings were being completed. I figured nothing for a few more days, but by the time school drop off this morning, slap was complete. Started a thread with plans and pics as requested! My Thread (Halls Head Beach House): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67006 Re: Ben Trager Secret Harbour. Surprise footings.. 113Sep 05, 2013 1:33 am oncewerefurriers Will pouring the footings on separate days cause any future structural problems? It isn't ideal but it is not likely to be an issue - we had a similar problem where they ran out of concrete along the last length of garage. We actually made them dig out the full section of the garage and re-pour that wall section. It's surprising that they could get it so wrong, or not coordinate that way so it's probably just highlight to the SS that it's a bit odd and see what he has to say. Actually - scratch that, I forgot you are building two storey too. If any of the footings are going to be under sections where it is two storeys then I'd ask what they are going to do to ensure the strength of the footings - the reason we made them dig it out is the garage wall will be supporting our upper floor. Ask them to get their engineer to sign-off on the footings being poured like that so if you do happen to get cracks or issues in those areas, then you have something in writing. Surprise footings.. 115Sep 05, 2013 9:14 am If the engineer we use saw that he would hit the roof. Footing and slabs are supposed to be poured all in one otherwise you end up with a cold join and would probably need a construction join in that section of the wall above it. Stewie Re: Ben Trager Secret Harbour. SLABBED!!!!!! 116Sep 05, 2013 9:40 pm I hope there isn't going to be a problem with it as it's now got a slab over the top of it and I wouldn't fancy the job of digging it up. We'll see. Re: Ben Trager Secret Harbour. Congrats on the slab - but yeah it is a bit odd to be doing the footings on the same day as doing the slab (even if it is only parts of it). The problem with issues that might come up are that if it is just cracks in the wall, it will be hard to demonstrate and prove it is becos of the footings or what they'll say is just the natural settling of the house. Oh well - see what they come back with. Demo + Build in Rivervale, Western Australia Moved in June 2014 http://rivervale.tumblr.com/ Building Thread Re: Ben Trager Secret Harbour. SLABBED!!!!!! 120Sep 05, 2013 11:54 pm Congratulations!! I'm sure if there were any issues with pouring 2 separate footings then they would have rectified before pouring the slab. Surely they wouldn't have allowed it to go ahead if there could be possible issues?! My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 I think the proposal that a supply and demand curve are a natural law are well exaggerated.
