Considering the current interest rate environment, I think they've got a great variable rate of 8.44% with no ongoing fees for first home owners. I have banked with the the mecu for all of my working life (a long time) and I recommend them highly. this credit union has everything the big 4 banks dont. Personal service, NO long waiting times on the phone, minimal fees etc etc apart from running my everyday transaction account with them, I have my mortgage with them too. The borrowing process was smooth . I think (from memory)they might have a "green" mortgage where if your house is 6 star you get a cheaper interest rate, maybe worth looking into. good luck! Thanks for your feedback. They do have a "green" loan and the rate is the same as for the first home owners loan. I think I like the fact the fees are readily available and they don't seem to charge for every little thing. Makes things a lot simplier when comparing lenders. Anyway, I'll check them out and see how I go.
