Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Apr 28, 2013 10:45 pm we are building a new house and i have been looking at pendant lights online but have a few questions. 1. is it easy enough for an electrician to fit them over the kitchen bench if there is no original light fittings there, and is it expensive to do this? 2. are pendant lights easily fitted to the original light fittings(for bedrooms, family rooms etc?) 3. why do most people go for individual pendant lights x 3 or 4 over the kitchen bench opposed to getting them in the 3or4 pendant option? 4. which pendant out of theses two do you prefer? i like both haha Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ infinity pendant Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ troy pendant TIA for any responses Re: pendant lighting questions 2Apr 28, 2013 10:54 pm 1. It's easy as long as its a single story home. If double story then get the builders to install batten lights above island bench. 2. Yes. Although unless its a DIY light fitting you'll need to get an electrician to fit it. 3. I suppose it's easier to space the lights out to suit your bench length. 4. I personally prefer the first one. Re: pendant lighting questions 4Apr 29, 2013 3:23 pm 1) Easy but needs extra wiring / switch, that would account a little extra cost. 2) If the previous electrician opened a big hole, you will need some plaster work if your new lights are having smaller base, this is what happened in my place. 3) More stylish if it's individually, and you can adjust different cord length for each one to show styles. 4) I would choose something non-transparent, just personal preference, no offend. Re: pendant lighting questions 5May 03, 2013 8:55 pm No idea as I have same questions, but just popping in to say first light Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: pendant lighting questions 6Sep 12, 2013 12:00 pm we have the electrician booked to hang pendant lights to 4x bedrooms and 3 over kitchen bench. we did not choose either of the lights in my original post though, lol. Re: pendant lighting questions 7Jan 08, 2014 5:44 pm 1. is it easy enough for an electrician to fit them over the kitchen bench if there is no original light fittings there, and is it expensive to do this? Yes very easy if the house is a single story, however if it is a double story, you will need to check if you have exposed (hollow) Posi struts. If so, it can be easily done if there is an existing light above or close to the island bench. If your struts are full, then its virtually impossible if they are running in the opposite direction to the bench. Same direction is again, easy. 2. are pendant lights easily fitted to the original light fittings(for bedrooms, family rooms etc?) Yes very easy. The existing light comes down, and the pendant is installed in its place 3. why do most people go for individual pendant lights x 3 or 4 over the kitchen bench opposed to getting them in the 3or4 pendant option? Personal preference and a design thing.
