Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 81May 01, 2016 9:59 am Oh, Charlibear....! Yes, I played with marbles, toy cars and slingshots... hahaha I AM girly in some ways... I like to knit and sew, do my hair... (not cook, but I'm ok at it!) Most of my family for generations back have been artisans... jewellers, stone masons, milliners, bakers, blacksmiths, carpenters, etc... so genetically speaking, it would probably be strange if I didn't like crafty and 'girl role' things. I am more masculine in my day to day tastes, however. I would rather stab myself to death than watch a rom-com, for instance. When I was a kid, five or six, I liked the traditional creepy fairytales where everybody died horribly at the end... not a Disney girl! I like realistic fantasy, where it doesn't go alright, and no happy lala at the end. I watch all the Chinese and Japanese films with the massive, bloody battles and the arterial blood spurts flying into the air. I even bought a replica 'Conan' sword (Arnie), at Comic-con last year. My husband looks askance upon these things. Any other bloke'd be thrilled if the missus started bringing home swords! I put oyster sheets and greige plain quilt covers on the bed, and my hubby likes white lacy lavender smelling - go figure? I don't really think PC has a lot to do with it. As my mother says, you can't beat millions of years of genetic and cultural development, and you are who you are. I like power tools, and play with concrete a lot, but I love the domestic arts as well. I don't see that women who want to stay home and keep house (me) should be looked on as inferior creatures, and be forced to have careers - I thought all that narrow thinking was what we were trying to stop? Horses for courses. At one time, I was working and my husband kept the house - he was dang good at it, and he liked it, but it wasn't really satisfying to him. It's plenty satisfying to me, though, so why not? I only work two days, and the rest is keeping our house and clothes and ourselves well maintained. Our health is better for it. Marshall, our friends have a little girl just like yours - very girly and all that. She's three, but you can see that it's totally natural with her. I used to cut the heads off my Barbies, but she dresses and undresses all her dollies and is generally pink all over. She's a dear little thing, and I always say that her saving grace is that she adores batman. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 82May 01, 2016 10:04 am Hahaha!! She is girly in some ways like when it comes to little black ants she is the biggest girl and runs away screaming I almost forgot to mention that we have the same WIR for our master, it is something I had to have. Isn't it just to die for?! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 83May 01, 2016 10:13 am I know, isn't it great? I saw it in a display and had to have it. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 84May 01, 2016 10:15 am I totally agree, you are what you are and you like what you like. I think the world has gone PC mad!! I'm not one of those at all haha. Although my girl is 'girly' she does have the side of her that is fascinated with the more gory things in life, like if we were to get a nasty graze that's pouring with blood, she has to see it. My Son is a different kettle of fish entirely, he's 3 and is on the spectrum. He's non verbal but knows his whole alphabet and numbers and can say them perfectly. He's really quite a fascinating boy but again, he likes cars and blocks and says, "yuck" if my girl tries to force her Barbies upon him haha Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 85May 01, 2016 10:47 am Oh, he's on the spectrum, too? I found out I was recently, couple of years back... now so much of my life makes sense. Your kids sound great... I know where he's at, I would have said 'yuck' too! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 86May 04, 2016 11:26 am see if this works? Trying to put house colours up..e <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/jayajaya84/embed/slideshow/house%20colours"></iframe> Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 87May 04, 2016 11:28 am nah, trying again http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/jayaj ... %20colours Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 88May 04, 2016 11:34 am Ok, that links ok to the house colours. The bay window will be the stone cladding which we will have to source ourselves. It's oyster yellow from DecorStone. Then the colorbond Surfmist for the roof, the CB shale grey for gutters, fascias and Garage doors, and the Santorini random brick, which will have a mortar the colour of the Surfmist roof, ideally. Kinda nice to have it in one place, Lol. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 89May 04, 2016 11:55 am The colours look great. Will you be getting an independent building inspector? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 90May 04, 2016 12:00 pm I love the stacker stone, just gorgeous!!! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 91May 04, 2016 4:04 pm Thanks guys! We thought that that colour stone would bring the roof colours down and bind it into the bricks/garage doors colours. Also the irregular stones in the cladding would echo the irregular brickwork, if that makes sense. Yes, we'll be getting an independent inspector... Houspect SA. They have a package of inspections, or you can just do certain stages. We're doing the lot, as it only comes to about $2000 to have every stage, plus plans and contract looked at. Small price for total peace of mind. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 92May 04, 2016 4:24 pm Ohhh thanks, we'll have a look at that too. We really want to use someone because our knowledge is literally just from what I've read on here Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 93May 04, 2016 4:52 pm Yeah, you gotta have someone in your corner if your technical knowledge is sketchy... but even if you know all about it, you can't be there every minute, and they can't fob off a certified inspector - some contractors would certainly try to fob a layman off with doublespeak. And you don't know which ones are which until it's too late! (Don't tell your other half I said that about the dead seaweed colour over on your thread!) Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 95May 04, 2016 6:36 pm Here are the kitchen colours. The benchtop is actually greyer than that, and the walls in the back are Dulux Brume quarter http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/jayaj ... n.jpg.html Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 96May 04, 2016 9:45 pm Ooooh nice, I like those handles and I love Grey Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 97May 16, 2016 10:29 pm JayaJaya Here are the kitchen colours. The benchtop is actually greyer than that, and the walls in the back are Dulux Brume quarter http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/jayaj ... n.jpg.html Only just found your post again! Love the colour selections. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 98May 20, 2016 11:18 pm how does everyone manage the waiting? for me time seems to have stood still which is good for keeping young but not so good when your waiting for a build to progress aargh! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 99May 24, 2016 7:49 am Hi All, back again... I don't mind the waiting, it gives me heaps of time to go through my selections quite thoroughly and change my mind a gazillion times. Sent back the corrected drawings... why is it that they all want you to have what they want and not what you want? So much stuff I got rid of crept back in, and other things I had put in were changed back, and... wow. I asked them about re-inforcing the slab under the freestanding bath - I thought if we chose a stone bath, now or in the future we might be in trouble without re-inforcement... those babies weigh in the region of 200kg without water and a person. So we got that put in. I had to ask for a floor drain for the laundry... I would have thought that was a no brainer, but apparently not 'required'. Uhhhh.... think I'll have it anyway! Jeepers, I'd hate to have a leak and no drain... cripes! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 100May 24, 2016 10:54 am I hear ya regarding the drain in the Laundry, I don't get why that's not standard.
