Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 61Apr 29, 2016 7:19 pm We did our selections at Beaumont today, it's the first time that we got to look at our drawings which I thought was a bit off. We're happy with them though, they do look like they're right but we'll check again now that they have been emailed to us. Really excited by our tiles, I can't believe we completely changed all of them haha. Oh well, we're sure they're perfect now We also popped into the Simonds gallery, it was a bit stressful, I suppose we were just expecting a bit more variety with some of the items. I would absolutely love to see your plans Jayajaya. Before all this I had no interest in buildings and floor plans etc but now I seem to have developed a bit of an obsession haha. Good luck at the cactus show tomorrow, I'm sure you'll find something pretty special. We're trying to sort out our external colours tonight. I'm finding it the worst part but I'm determined to be ready by the time we go to gallery Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 62Apr 30, 2016 2:45 pm Haha Marshall... IKWYM, it's so easy to change your mind once you see it all 'up close and personal'. Decided exteriors yet? Did you thrash it out until two in the morning with black eyes all 'round? That's the problem with all the 'en masse' builders... no variety, just whatever bulk they can get cheap - then they charge you premium! I love our builder, because they are very happy for us to supply with items we don't want from them... ie. they had no freestanding bath, so we said we'd buy it and they'd put it in. I went out to PGH bricks today, and even though they were a bit useless (did not understand the concept of wanting to view roof samples BEFORE selections - Gasp! Horrors!). After explaining to the girl that we were never going out there again, we got some help - we eventually got some roof samples in our hands and ran outside to the bricks, held it up and BINGO! We both loved it, *sigh* relief! So we are having Santorini Random bricks in the front, with off white mortar. Surfmist roof, and Shale grey gutters and fascia. The garage doors will either be Surfmist or Shale Grey. The stone cladding tiles to the bay window will be mid-grey/cream/limestone, so I'm thinking the Shale Grey for the garage doors, to tie in with the like colour in the stone tiling. Pgh products were not what we wanted in the stone cladding for the bay window (which will be slightly wider), and I figured out if we supplied/bought it ourselves for them to install we would save around $1500. Not to be sneezed at. I am hoping against hope that the following link will take you to the blurry image of our plans...it was the best I could do! The Surface has an El Crappo camera. The scribblings are all our rough correction notes, of which there are many - but hopefully you get the idea. Interested to see what anyone thinks. We love it. http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... unzfav.jpg The cactus show was a dud as far as plant purchase went... a selection of your usual garden escapees that can be found on the roadside. The slightly more unusual ones can be found at cactus hell... oops! I mean bunnings, for reasonable prices. The cactus society ones were a little overpriced, and quite small, compared to what you can find at garden centres. I had no hope of detecting anything more unusual than that, because it was overcrowded, I was stampeded by taller folk, and almost overcome by unwashed armpits, as that is head height for me. I don't begrudge them the six bucks we paid to get in, as it helps them, and now I know not to waste my time there. I was after disocactus flagelliformis, but I doubt anyone had one. Better off online. We had a great time at Cactus Creations at McLaren Vale... I don't remember the lady's name, but she had lots. All that elbowing for nothing - it was crammed into tiny Payneham Library at Felixstow, no parking to speak of, we had to park streets away. A better venue perhaps, would work wonders. Oh , well c'est la vie! We had a nice drive. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 63Apr 30, 2016 3:05 pm Wow I love your floor plan. I'm very envious of all the rooms you have, I could do with that when I'm trying to hide from my little people haha I really love that style WIR and already told my hubby that next time (if there is a next time) we will design our own home and have one of those Hmm maybe we should visit PGH bricks, that could be a big help to us, why didn't I think of that?! We still can't agree on the exterior or the kitchen. I will win eventually!!! Bad luck with the cactus place, the armpits would be enough to send me running for the hills 'Blurgh' Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 64Apr 30, 2016 3:24 pm The armpits were just the icing on the cake... Absolutely go to the bricks display, it really helps! They are still building it, after the amalgamation with Boral bricks. (How the heck was that allowed to happen? Practically no competition in bricks at all, now.) There are lots of bricks etc up, though, and it gives you a better idea of the colour in real life. Brochures and small samples just don't cut it. I'd seen the Santorini bricks around, but the owners had all chosen a VERY yellow mortar, and that threw up the yellow in the brick so much. (Go my turn of phrase! Just gave myself visions of Dorothy chucking up the yellow brick road after a heavy night.) The display mortar was much lighter, so it was easy to imagine what we wanted, and you can go right up close to touch it, and really get a feel for it. (Playing in Dorothy's sick? ) Glad you like the floor plan. My hubby has worked himself practically to death over the years, and so we just didn't have to compromise. And we said we were NOT going to have any 'second best' choices if we could avoid it, seeing as this is the last house. (Powers that be, willing!) The thing is, we will use all these rooms to the max, it's not like we'll be lost in a house that big. My current sewing room is the size of the cloak room, and I'm busting out of it already. I like to make costumes occasionally, for Supanova and Comic-con, and it all takes up so much room. That linen press will see max usage, as well. I have those mini wheelie bins full of wools and things. They can all wheel under the first shelf in that press. Good luck with your exterior selections, I hope there are no serious injuries! Iwent over to your thread to ask about your tile changes... New Building Seaford Meadows SA 65Apr 30, 2016 3:49 pm Thanks, we will definitely drop by, we certainly need the extra help. It's surprising how different mortar can change the look of the brick. It's actually the render paint colour and the garage colour that we're finding hard to agree on. Hubby chose a colour that to me looks like seaweed - vile, I'm not having that!
Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 66Apr 30, 2016 6:35 pm Love your floor plan Jaya! The WIP is amazeballs!!! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 67Apr 30, 2016 6:59 pm Wow very jealous of your floor plan. Looks amazing. That live in robe is crazy!! And a sewing room too.... wow!! Will be good to see it all come together. Hopefully we are building at the same time and can keep an eye out for each others houses Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 68Apr 30, 2016 7:35 pm Thanks everyone! Yeah Charlibear, I was gonna have the pantry of my dreams at all costs! Being a child free couple, we were really able to go for it, and spoil ourselves. I hope we all get to build around the same time, too. It will be so exciting to see everyone's dreams/work/planning come to fruition. I just got an estimate from Advance robes in Seaford on the work I want done afterwards...they are gonna fit out the pantry and linen press as well. I get superior spec on everything and drawers galore for about $2000 more than I was gonna pay for crappy doors, a rail and a shelf by the builders. Sooo happy. It just seemed we couldn't get anything like the layout we wanted anywhere else, and I really dislike bedrooms at the front, with car noise and lights etc. So I pulled out the builder's Callara 5 plan and modified the beje$us out of it, and extended the wall at the back. (When I say I, I mean I... my poor hubby had no clue where to start! So for days I was showing him drawings, and he was nodding his head sagely, but looking somewhat glazed ) We are making a very slight infringement on the 'private open space' rule, however the builder is confident that it is so slight that the council won't reject. Fingers crossed! I'm ready to tango if they want to fight about it - I WANT this house! If I can't have Gull Cottage from the movie I'm d@mn well having this... #firstworldproblems. Marshall, I gotta ask - dried sushi seaweed, half rotten seaweed, or fresh green seaweed? Uuurrrggggh.... New Building Seaford Meadows SA 70Apr 30, 2016 8:32 pm Seaweed that's been on the beach for a fair while, it's a real murky green colour which he is calling, 'Mushroom'. Not on this planet I too hope that we're building all at the same time, we can all share our excitement and you can give us 2nd and 3rd opinions on things that we're not sure about Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 71Apr 30, 2016 9:08 pm More like he's ON mushrooms, Marshall. Sounds pretty bad... don't tell him I said that! What colour are you wanting? Cripes! I want opinions from you lot, not the other way about. Don't trust me, I'm likely to tell you that 'aubergine and teal' would look good in the nursery. (Scarred from growing up in the seventies! Did you see that link I put up in Kitchen corner for all the seventies kitchens? I had nightmares for a week.) Charlibear, the infringement is about .5 sqm less than the requirements for yard size, for that block, I think. It really wasn't much, so I hope they'll let it go. We deliberately filled the space with house. We don't want to look after a yard when we're in zimmer frames. Do you have a build thread I can follow? I've found a few more blunders on the plans. I'm starting to get that floaty feeling of tiredness. If I never see another ruler or red pencil again, it will be too soon. Good news is, I accidentally made the house good feng shui for the southern hemisphere! Can't hurt. And another VERY peculiar thing... I was born on the 11th, the house number will be 22 and I'll move in there when I'm 44. Double up, anyone? Most peculiar. Like the rental we had was 16 Quadrant, and what's 4 x 4? Totally weird. The problem lie-s with me - I can't help noticing! (Craptacular censor again!) Anyway, I'm taking it as a good omen. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 72Apr 30, 2016 9:10 pm By the way, what do you reckon about my avatar? That's the Alien warrior cookie jar that's gonna live on my kitchen bench with my dishwasher tabs in him. I think he's adorbs, but hubby's not so enthused - talk about role reversal! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 73Apr 30, 2016 9:17 pm While I'm her, where are you Cook2091? What's happening with you? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 75Apr 30, 2016 9:21 pm Surely that should be fine, I guess depends how strict your council is, are they flexible or straight down the line? No thread yet, not building until later this year probably submit plans to council say October or November and maybe start a thread closer around that date or maybe when we do selections in June. Currently living with the in laws so hopefully we can submit plans in October or I might just lose my cool with them, always meddling and it's very frustrating to say the least as they are incredibly nosey in your business people. I think the little dude is quite cool Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 76Apr 30, 2016 9:31 pm I'm glad you like him, I can show hubby this comment, and say 'see? It's not only Mum and I!' hahahha. I'm sooo lucky, my husband is Welsh and my in-laws live in the UK - score!! Actually, he's not entirely fond of his own family at times. Conversely, he gets on with my Mum like eggs 'n' ham! I feel your pain. I'd hate that! I think our council is pretty cool about most things - see what happens, and cross those bridges when we come to them. Hope things settle down for you. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 77Apr 30, 2016 9:36 pm I have absolutely no idea. I think it will all come together once we choose the other items or maybe that's wishful thinking by me. I'm not keen on any of the builders colours, I suggested to hubby that we just have the render painted a light colour, then paint it whatever colour we want after handover. He didn't seem keen. Yes! If my Nan hadn't moved house, I'm pretty sure she would still have a kitchen like one of those. It was enough to give me a headache! Waaaaay to many trees were cut down for her old kitchen. I'm not sure I'd get away with that cookie jar in my house haha I'm sure it will fit in much better in your home, ours is a bit too girly and dominated by our Miss 5 and her love of pink! How do you know what your house number will be? I've been wondering about ours. Numbers aren't my thing, I would never notice a pattern but I can definitely see the pattern with yours, it must be a good onen Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 78Apr 30, 2016 10:09 pm Uuurrrrgggggghhhh.... pink. I'm not the most girly girl! I don't know how I'd cope with little girls. Mum showed me a pic from the internet that was a tiny girl in a pink Darth Vader helmet. Mum's comment was. 'That's the only way I'd have ever gotten you in pink!' We figured we were 22 'cus they've built up to number 14, and we just counted down to us. So I don't think they're adventurous enough to play heck with the numbers around here! My somewhat autistic brain automatically finds patterns - I can't get away from it. I always used to fly through those 'continue the numerical sequence' tests. Just smacks me in da face alla time. some of those kitchens were soooo bad! And I loved the comments by the collector of the article - hilarious - especially about the people cooking shish kebabs. OMG. White knight do a fantastic paver/concrete paint that is great for over render. We did our letterbox in it years ago, and it still looks like we painted it yesterday. Don't know if it's tintable or set colours, though, we just went for cream. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 79May 01, 2016 7:51 am My daughter is exactly like you Jaya, I took her to get a happy meal last night and she says mum don't you even think about getting me the girls toy (she's 4) not a girl girl at all Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 80May 01, 2016 8:54 am Haha they are funny, my girl couldn't be more girly if she tried, we haven't pushed it on her either, she's just like it naturally (that's probably not very PC is it?
