Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 962Sep 30, 2016 6:07 pm Soooo tired and about to do a 4 hour shift as supervisor The shower is amazing - I could stay in there all day, it's basically a rain maker. It was weird being so quiet last night as I have lived in a main road for the last 9.5 years plus the train track nearby to basically a closed off estate. It's nice but just need to get use to it. Was cool to wake up to kangaroos jumping past our bedroom windows this morning as well. We are about 3/4 way through moving the old house to the new one, so will finish that tomorrow as well as empty the storage shed. We just moved the 4 cats also before I came to work. Poor things are hiding under the boys beds shaking. I'm sure they will be fine in a few days. Must be off, time to clock on. Will update more later. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 963Sep 30, 2016 6:10 pm Awww so glad your first night was a success wooooo. Im sure your cats will live their new friends the roos Im dreading bringing my anxious cat to the new home. It took 2 weeks for her to accept a new puppy. She hates outdoors and visitors too. Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 965Sep 30, 2016 8:28 pm Woohoo the update I've been waiting for How cool, kangaroos Poor little kitties, they'll come out of their hidey holes soon Can't wait to see your home with furniture GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 966Oct 02, 2016 10:35 pm I can't believe how much stuff we have!!! We are still moving stuff. We have emptied the old house but still have one more load of old fencing rails that hubby makes into things. Already done 3 trailer loads of palings etc Then we have half a storage shed still left. It never ends - plus tomorrow I have to clean the old house, mow and I also have a shift at work I picked up! However I now have a garage, so everything goes in there and I'm going through box by box so at least the house is neat and clean. Just took a couple photos for you guys. Our bedroom - so glad I kept the sliding door on the WIR. Also def be able to upgrade to that king I want. Of course we have found issues that you don't pick up until you move in. We have no tv service hubby checked the leads and it all looks right so will have to call Tuesday. We have no internet or phone line - one thing we really wanted. Service guy will be here by Wednesday afternoon to fix and see is it Telstra fault or builder. Washing machine drain. We had the laundry made for front loaders only - so bench right across. They hooked up the sink washing machine drain and not the side of the pipe one inside the cupboard - I mean how did they think we were going to hook up the machine? We just saw the outlet underneath and thought cool it's done. Then we went to install the pipe and thought better check they popped the bit inside and guess what - nope so looked into it and found the top connected instead temp solution to use machine as no way pipe is long enough to go up around front of benchtop and back to sink back hole is to pull the pipe off in the cupboard and feed it that way - so far it's okay but worried we might have a overflow. I found a screw head sticking out into the cavity of my WIR and it's scratching a line into the door everytime I open and close it. Otherwise, so far so good. Just lots of unpacking to do. Plus need to start sorting out everything to start retaining wall then fencing. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 967Oct 02, 2016 10:46 pm Love this update shell!! You have been very busy!! Do you know if the door you want is still available? Hopefully it's still there for you in the 7th!! Is that your boy in that pic? Looks ver grown if it is. Where is your space? Everyone seems to have their own space but what about yours? Hmm I've heard a few stories in here where people don't get reception for anything when they move in, hopefully it's a quick fix!! Can you request a new WIR door? Or the screw to be fixed and a new coat of paint for the door? Also that beautiful house is all yours, you've worked extremely hard for it so all yours, no ones going to interrupt and tell you to leave GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 968Oct 03, 2016 9:44 am Yay yay yay!!! Love love love your pics and updates shell!!! A bummer about the laundry and tv/phone/internet but those things will be rectified. At least they are fairly minor. How's your neighbor loving having the family in lol. Anything been said?? - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 970Oct 03, 2016 1:49 pm Looks like you'll be settled in before you know it - it's looking great. Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 971Oct 03, 2016 7:30 pm Oh super super exciting big congrats My kitties are finally settling after a week, although the nervous boy is still hanging in one room. Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 972Oct 05, 2016 1:38 am I now have tv and internet!! I needed a booster on my antenna which the guy came and did today and telstra came and found the electrician installed my sockets wrong. I have to email GJ tomorrow and tell them if Telstra bill me (which I know they will) I'm sending them the bill since it was their fault. However guess what, my rainwater tank pipe busted again today when I drove over it. I called and said he better install it 400mm like industry standard and not the 100mm he has done both times. I have forgotten to tell them about the laundry washing machine drain so will contact them tomorrow about it. My old house is now ready for settlement on Thursday. It was sad walking around it empty and knowing we have now left - its really the only home my older 2 boys have ever known. I'm going to go back tomorrow to take photos to have it to compare to the photos we took before moving in 9.5 years ago. The cats are still being annoying. The 2 girl cats are fine and I think I could even test them going outside. 1 male seems to have calmed down but the other one is worse than a newborn baby. He spends all night walking around crying every minute - yet spends the day happily sleeping on the beds - he is driving us nuts as the meow echos through the house. CB - I saw the door there on Friday however now we are in I'm thinking more practical then looks and I really enjoy the breeze we are getting being up on the hill. So I think I may do the crim safe type of front screen door instead so I can open it up during the day. Yep that was my eldest and his friend - already have had 2 sleepover nights - we are kinda the in town house for the out of town kids. Eldest goes to the beach this weekend to another mates house. My space is the family/dining and kitchen. I kinda enjoy it, boys hang out in their area, hubby is in his lounge and i just enjoy my area and the alfresco attached. I'm into cooking and sewing which I use the dining room table so makes sense this is more my area. Hopefully I will have a new TV for my section in the next couple of weeks. I picked up my weeping mulberries today - they are beautiful. I was shocked to see how grown they have become since July and they have fruit ready to ripen which I didn't expect. I'm hoping to give them a week or two before we plant them out to get over the shock of the trip to the house with the wind. Hope they sort the tank pipe and other stuff. That would be frustrating. I know what you mean about the old house. I was the same when I finished cleaning it and was ready to walk out for the last time...I walked around every room and remembered so many things that transpired between those walls. It was the only house my youngest ever knew too. I was grateful to it (sounds bizarre and sappy I know) but without that little red brick house we would never of been able to build our dream home. We left our mark on it as did the previous owners and now a new little family will do the same Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 974Oct 06, 2016 11:58 am Dee - They are, took me forever to get them home as I was driving 20km an hour and pulling over to check them all the time as it was windy. I had to tie them up at the house in the end as the wind blew them over. It gets very windy at my new house and with no fences it blows right through. I did cry today walking around the old house and then handing the keys to the real estate for the new owner to pick up this afternoon. I gave my neighbours a box of chocolates and a card, one hugged me crying and wishing us luck and saying how sad she was seeing us go. Made me cry all over again. I then left a bunch of flowers, chocolates and a notebook about the house on the kitchen counter for the new owner. Its weird to think currently someone else is sitting around all excited right now like I was a week ago - I bet she can't wait to spend this weekend moving into her first home. Pipe is fixed and been dug to correct depts. Took them 2 hours to dig the hole - no wonder they didn't want to do it before. Got letter from council with what my house failed for occupation certificate. All of it is now done as he came a day early so it had things like external painting needs doing, builders waste removed, site scrapped clean etc Only thing the builder needs to do which we were not expecting is they want another survey done for show the house is not over the back easement and also they haven't handed in the engineering report for the timber retaining wall. Funny thing was they didn't pick up there was no house number when he was there. It should have failed that as I didn't get the house number on until the next day. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 975Oct 06, 2016 12:03 pm Shel there is a product called feliway our vet recommended it is a plug in device which emits a pheromone that calms cats. sekisui build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75060&p=1573965#p1573965 Building a sekisui house in Holmesville NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75060 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 976Oct 06, 2016 2:31 pm Mim - thank you for that. That's lovely. I was reading our progress payment docs from the bank today and they require a final survey with certificate to say the house is within boundaries. Gj's better get that done coz that's why we went with Imb in the end. - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 980Oct 07, 2016 8:33 am Oh man I can imagine that drive home with your trees! Same thing happened to me once bringing furniture home from ikea on the trailer...was a windy spring day too and I was crapping myself! I left flowers and champers with a welcome to your new home card for our buyers too. I was so happy it sold to first home buyers! The exact same us as when we bought it. I remember writing all the houses 'quirks' in there and crying as I was writing (I'm such a sap!) our agent told me that the wife cried whilst reading it as she was so happy and grateful. Anyways how bizarre the council completely missed the house number! Glad the rest is all sorted and you can now move onto enjoying this next exciting chapter!
