Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 01, 2009 5:04 pm Hi, We have chosen our carpet but can't decide on the underlay - foam or rubber. We will use the top choice of either one and they are both the same cost. Just one shop told us that rubber is the best and another shop said foam is best. Any unbiased advice on which to choose? Re: Carpet underlay - Foam or rubber 2Apr 01, 2009 5:07 pm There's a few threads on this.... but all the carpet guys recommend foam. I know steveo has told me that when he rips up old carpet, the foam underlay is still spongy. The rubber is just flat and melted to the slab. If there's a choice, I'd go foam every time. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
