Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 29, 2009 12:34 pm Has anyone installed the wood-look polyflor themselves? Or do they know where I can find more information on hour to do it myself? (Wood-look polyflor is vinyl stips that look like wood. Some places call it vinyl tiles but like with laminates, the quality might not be as good.) A google search didn't come back with anything. Re: DIY Polyflor 2Mar 31, 2009 4:46 pm The Vinyl tiles are great! Very hard and very resilient. Karndean, is what you are looking for. You can install them yourself. Apparently its getting the concrete floor smooth is the hard bit. We'll be getting them installed as handy & DH do not belong in the same sentence. For the one I was looking at it was $84 installed a sqm but the more you have installed the cheaper it gets. I'm going to have a look at the cheaper one think its a da vinci & compare. After the cost of tiles I need to do some serious budget trimming Re: DIY Polyflor 5Apr 01, 2009 5:38 pm Yes mrs_smith….its the concrete base that’s important. Usually if the concrete is not smooth enough you have put a levelling compound….Ardit, down over the concrete to make sure it’s all smooth and level! That’s where the expense comes in. As long as you have the right glue to glue them down with, and the concrete is level, you should be ok to do this on your own. BUT…..remember, you may kill off any warrantee on the product if you do it yourself??? I personally would get it done professionally. People tend to forget how important flooring is; you walk on it every day for the rest of the time it is there, so if it’s not done right, you could be looking at something for a very long time that will drive you crazy! I was originally thinking of doing the click laminate flooring as we have done it a million of times DIY (for DF's sister's house, for the church hall, and for some mates) and IMO we do it better than getting someone to do it, as we are very careful and all of us are perfectionists. But I like how the vinyl floors don't have the hollow sound and are much more harder wearing, and also I won't have to worry about warping so I can use it in the kitchen too, so I was just wondering is it possible to DIY. It sounds like it is achievable. We would definitely get the right stuff too (and would buy it all wholesale as it's cheaper). Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4779 Re my second point – yes exactly. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 5618 |
