Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 02, 2010 6:18 pm Hi. We recently purchased an old house that we will renovate. Kitchen will go in the bin (with bathroom etc). OK question is about the floor. What should we put in the kitchen? I'm a bit confused when people say laminate floorboards. Do you mean those strip ones that click together? If so are they OK, easy to install? last OK? (it will be a rental). I bought some glue down ones for another house. They look OK but were a pain to lay. Someone else told me about self adhesive ones. Are they any good? It sounds so easy. The kitchen is small 2500 x 2100 so don't need much. Time is of the essence as we have a lot to do and need to get it done quickly. We want to do it ourselves too. Do I lay the floor first then put in the kitchen? or put it in after the kitchen? One kitchen mob has adjustable feet so I can lay just under the kickboard then put the panels on (if we get that one). Sorry about the stupid questions. Any advice welcome. Re: Confused about timber laminate 2Aug 04, 2010 7:50 am Do you want to run the same floor throughout ? What style / colours are you looking for ? It sounds like Allure would be perfect . Perfect for wet areas too so can go in ANY room in your house and it's the easiest DIY floor in Australia. Re: Confused about timber laminate 3Aug 06, 2010 8:48 am Hi, It's just for a cheap investment property so not too fussed on colour as long as it's durable. It will be for the kitchen and dining rooms. Rest we'll carpet. thanks. I will investigate further. Re: Confused about timber laminate 4Aug 06, 2010 10:27 am Use Allure. Water is no problem with it. Better for a rental in that way. Goto your local HN store up there. They sell it. It's like laminate, but made from PVC and floats just like laminate does, without an underlay. Very easy to install yourself to save money. Kitchen first, floor last. Re: Confused about timber laminate 5Aug 07, 2010 7:08 pm Thanks I looked at the Allure. It's not cheap though. On another forum someone is talking about a vinyl one that clicks together and doesn't need glue. At half the price. Any idea what that would be? Re: Confused about timber laminate 6Aug 07, 2010 9:43 pm There is a dicontinued product that failed (in sales figures) called Push Fit. It somehow clicks together, but as I say, the importer axed it due to poor sales. You get what you pay for with flooring. I am not saying Push Fit is bad, just that it got axed not long after it was released. Take Allure though, sales keep going up and up. The range now 3 times bigger than it was 12 months ago. There is a reason for that. Usually, when it comes to flooring, the money you save at the start is minor compared to the costs of repairs and replacement due to quality issues, so if you go budget then be careful. If you want to get a deal on Allure, let me know, I can sell you it from Melbourne and get a pick-up address in Sydney for you. Might be able to save you a bit.
