Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 15, 2011 10:03 am Have just got a spec sheet and quote from the builder we're interested in. They told us previously that their 'standards' are wool carpets and floating timber floors. I'm not so keen on wool because it irritates my skin but I'd still like a decent carpet. We want reasonable quality without breaking the bank. The allowances in the spec are $50m2 supply and lay for carpet and $90m2 supply and lay for hard floor. Tiling allowance for bathrooms etc $30m2 but I don't know if that includes the laying of the tiles or just the supply. Do you think these allowances would pay for something reasonable? What's your experience? 5.5m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) Moved in!! - 22 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53455 Re: Do these allowances sound about right? 2Dec 15, 2011 7:32 pm Depending on where you are but we work on $50-$60m2 for our builders but that is only a mid range quality carpet. I would go have a look at a flooring store & see what you like & see if that meets your budget. $30m2 is for the tiles only & is a fairly std allowance that would give you a good range of ceramic tiles to look at. If you wanted polished Porcelain or something like that then you need to allow $50m2 or more, plus the installation would cost more if being done properly. $90m2 for hard floor, will depend on what you want, again have a look at a flooring store & see what you like. Your builder has allowed a reasonable amount, but as I keep mentioningd have a look at the flooring store, maybe even someone like Carpet Court? Only slightly biased with that comment....
