Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Jun 07, 2016 6:48 pm We have a large sliding door in our meals area that leads to the alfresco balcony. I've never bothered with window coverings as no one can see in and it keeps the view open to the views. Being our second winter in the house I have now decided that I need to get some sort of window covering to help insulate the room as it gets really cold. The door is approximately 3.5m wide. I'm torn between roller blinds or roman blinds. I was considering panel blinds but I've been told they're not as good insulation wise. I would need to have two blinds right next to each other as the door is too wide for a single blind. The door consists of 3 panels so I'm considering having one blind covering two panels and one blind covering one panel. I'm interesting in seeing what other people have done to cover a large window/sliding door. Please share your photos and ideas Thanks Re: Large sliding door - which blinds? 2Jun 07, 2016 7:53 pm HomeAngels We have a large sliding door in our meals area that leads to the alfresco balcony. It leads out to our alfresco and looks and functions very well. Re: Large sliding door - which blinds? 3Jun 07, 2016 7:59 pm Sounds interesting. Do you have a picture you can share? Who did your roller blind? I can't anywhere that will make a roller blind 3.5m wide. Iseekblinds in Thomastown- Mike from there. I measured he made. I fitted. I think my tripple stacker was under 3500mm though. Re: Large sliding door - which blinds? 5Jun 07, 2016 9:27 pm Your looks great! Curtains would not be practical for us though. We have a dog who always uses the door. I think blinds would be best in our situation so she won't rub up against them when walking in or out. I'm still looking for inspiration. I have someone scheduled for a measure and quote on Thursday so hope to get some ideas from them as well. We had a large Roman blind on our sliding door from our master bedroom to the outside it was very heavy and got very dusty. Also when you have it up there's no privacy. We are having what's called vertisheers on our sliding door from our bedroom to the outside but we needed privacy as we have an open ensuite. They look like sheer curtains but have a vertical blind built in. Hopefully they work well. Not sure about rollers but same problem when up no privacy. Re: Large sliding door - which blinds? 11Jun 11, 2016 3:39 pm Hi Robina Privacy isn't an issue for us as no one can see in as its on the second level and there is a large balcony. I hadn't considered the dust factor with romans! I'd never make that mistake again. Especially with dogs. Huge nightmare and annoyance. At our new house we are going with white sheers. They just clip off to wash. Re: Large sliding door - which blinds? 15Dec 18, 2016 12:16 pm I'm also struggling with this. We have a 6.3m sliding door that has 6 pa els and opens from the middle. I've looked into vertical honeycomb blinds but they are too pricey. Hubby hates curtains and I don't love panel gliders. Looking for something to keep the afternoon westerly sun out. I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors. I am on a second-story apartment of which the balcony would not adequately fit any bi-fold or… 5 16762 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Thanks Chippy . Did also see a YouTube video before.
