Given the cost and the supposed rate of air movement I think it's better to have a solar powered one after handover. They seem to move more air mass than whirly birds, and we paid like $900 or something for two so whirly birds aren't cheap! In terms of roof tile colour, obviously lighter colours reflect heat more than darker but for us we wanted the aesthetics of a darker tile and also we were considering a solar heated pool, so darker tiles would have been better for the heating pipes on the roof. We opted for gas heating in the end but it still looks good with the contrast with the lighter render colour. These look pretty cool (no pun intended): http://www.topfrogenergy.com.au/product ... roof-vent/ Re: Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 490Jun 02, 2016 11:16 pm Looks amazing!! A second team is coming next week to do the data, telephone, alarm and speaker cable and I just need two additional speaker cable lines put in. I'm hoping it's allowed. Everything else has been a location change with powerpoints and TV points etc, and the installers were cool about it today. Re: Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 498Jun 03, 2016 10:36 pm Looking good with the cabling Vista! So what's the benefit of having data points as opposed to strong wifi in the house? I'm pretty clueless with these things Does that mean you need to know where and the size of your tvs and speakers when you had your electrical a appointment? Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Our Metricon Liberty 45 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney 499Jun 04, 2016 4:22 am You'll be sorry you asked Q! You can have strong wifi but you'll never get the speeds for the future with regular wireless routers and they'll inevitably be black spots around the home where there's no wifi coverage. Think of a public library where no matter where you sit you have strong wifi coverage, wouldn't that be neat? So I'm using 3 wifi mesh points by a company called Ubiquiti ($200 each) it's the sort of network you get in public places. Basically you can move between the 3 zones with no loss of coverage and seamless cellular like movement, bit like a mobile phone network where it will switch to the best signal without you knowing. It comes with mapping software so you can see exactly how to optimise coverage and it will transmit stronger signals in whichever direction you choose to ensure 100% signal coverage around the home. On a home the size of the L45, you need something like this I think. Also covers outside areas, pool etc and my portico where we're having a video doorbell by Ring.com which also needs a good signal to stream video. With regards data points themselves, firstly CAT 6 can run at tens of gigabits, so potentially future proof to some extent. The reason I have them at every TV is because I want to run an HD and UHD TV (4 or 8k) network in the future. Basically we will get a matrix switch from companies like HDAnywhere which I will house centrally in my media hub. You connect all your devices to this, up to 8 separate HD/UHD devices and then via CAT6 cabling the signal is distributed to each data point by each TV. You just connect via an HDMI lead locally at the TV. They all come with their own IR remote receivers too, so say you want to change the FOXTEL channel, you can do this at each and every TV that's connected using the FOXTEL remote you already have. Or DVD or Bluray, whatever you have distributed at the hub. Of course you'd use a universal remote everywhere so you don't have to carry lots of different ones around. So you can have any source (FOXTEL, Apple TV, Bluray, PS4, Amazon Fire etc) played on any TV at any time. You can also have 'follow me' TV, say you're watching something in the Family room, dinner is ready, you seamlessly carry on watching it, from where you left off, in the Dining Room. How cool is that? I'm thinking ahead to when I have hormonal teenagers What you can't do yet is watch different things with this set up, so say kids are watching FOXTEL cartoons in one room, you can't watch FOXTEL sports in another, not without two FOXTEL receivers. But if you had two you could distribute them both to any tv independently. Finally, you'll be glad to hear, we're setting up a NAS (Network Attached Storage) system for music and lower quality (1080p max) movies using Plex. With Smart Samsung TVs they have native Plex and Synology apps, so we can play any music, watch any movie or view any of our thousands of pictures from any TV in the house. Here you can watch the same media object in two different places. I could watch the beginning of say The Godfather and the kids could already be half way through the same movie. Or they could be watching or listening to something completely different from the NAS. We can also stream music around the house to any or all of the 8 speakers we will have. All of this will be protected by a dedicated CCTV system, also on a network for remote access and email alerts when motion is detected. I won't go into the details for obvious reasons! Hope that helps! ps yes you do need to know the locations of your TVs roughly and how high you'll place them. I have mine around 1500mm in bedrooms and around 1300-1400mm in communal areas. I've then asked for noggins and data points/DGPO in these locations. You don't have to be that exact as a normal 50-60 inch LED TV will cover a wide area so it will all be hidden behind.
