Browse Forums Laundry Appliances Re: URGENT- top loader or front loader and Why! 21Aug 04, 2010 1:52 pm When our 10 yr old top loader died last year I decided to buy a Bosch 8kg Front Loader and it is fantastic! Pros: Really gentle on clothes, I can do a 15 minute wash or a full 2.5 hr wash, I can choose a wash specifically to remove certain stains, clothes come out SO dry thanks to amazingly fast spin cycle, really water efficient, uses so much less washing powder. Oh and I can stack my dryer right on top, so it's much more space efficient. Cons: Bit more expensive, can't chuck that forgotten sock in mid wash. I really love it but I think you need to get one with a good reputation (I checked out a review website). We installed a washer / dryer in our investment unit and at the 5yr mark, it needed some costly repairs which therefore put both the washer & dryer out of action. Feedback we got was that it took forever to do a wash / dry and it could only dry half the load it could wash. I won't ever get one of these again. Our first one was a whirlpool or westinghouse (can't remember which...) it was OK, but didn't last any longer than 5 years with the heavy duty workout it got! We then got an LG about 11 years ago-and it is still going strong (DD has it), washes beautifully and has quick wash options... WE now have a Maytag-have had for 3 or 4 years and it does a fantastic job. Also has a quick wash option. BTW- I only wash in cold water. Clothes seem a lot cleaner and as Erin said, there is no agitator so clothes arent likely to be ruined. For the new house we have bought a Miele washer and dryer combo. Not sure whether we'll stack or not yet And I agree with kek, the last few weeks Ive been washing and then sticking that load in the dryer while another load washes. When you have three loads a day, its sooo much better than a combo. I wanted to use cloth nappies, but we're house sharing and dont have a dryer so it wasnt practical unfortunately. With cloth nappies, I assume your wife is doing a load of nappies at the very minimum once every 2 days if she has a large stash so I dont think a combo would be good, at least not during winter. Summer sun is best for cloth nappies, but in winter you need to know that the households washing wont be held just for nappies Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated!
