Browse Forums Laundry 1 Apr 05, 2023 12:44 am Hi all Trying to install a provision inside the bathroom vanity unit for the washing machine drain hose First time doing the plumbing and have few questions, hoping the experienced people could assist, but any help is highly appreciated The first photo is an initial set up I had On the second photo I have added the adapter (which a kinetic laundry bypass from bunnings) As you can see and as I circled in blue there was a transition from 40mm trap pipe to the 50 mm adapter/laundry bypass pipe and the same is between the sink housing which was 40 mm and 50 mm adapter Third photo shows the outlet circled in yellow where another pipe with elbow is to be installed so that the washing machine house can be inserted in there Question - I have used two small adapters to transition from 40 mm to 50 mm twice, is it an Ok and safe set up ?? Also overall is it the right set up ? You just need to drill out the spigot on the trap and connect to that. Unless I'm missing something Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Bathroom sink trap washing machine hose provision/bypass 7Apr 06, 2023 9:43 am chippy Everything you need to connect the washing machine was already there. Most people don't know about the spigot unrill they've done some home plumbing I don't know what the flow rate of a washing machine waste is, but reckon the spigot would do? Most laundry troughs have a much wider waste (see straniks pic) Re: Bathroom sink trap washing machine hose provision/bypass 8Apr 06, 2023 9:52 am ponzutwo chippy Everything you need to connect the washing machine was already there. Most laundry troughs have a much wider waste (see straniks pic) ours is plumbing to the hole that you usually see on the edge of the sink to hang the hose on, so slightly different design. i guess it would depend on the diameter of the washing machine drain hose. if it matches that spigot then maybe it's ok. i was going to suggest the same thing as chippy but didn't know the right word for "that thing that sticks out" and whether plumbers usually drill through it or buy the part with the hole already there, so figured i'll keep my mouth shut Re: Bathroom sink trap washing machine hose provision/bypass 9Apr 06, 2023 10:06 am Ours is just connected to the standard one on the trap. The drain pipe diameter of the washing machine is to small to connect to the larger diameter spigot. That's a Bosch front loader. The simple process is, remove trap, drill out blanking plate in existing spigot, reattach the trap and attach the washing machine drain. All done.
