Post subject:  Blinds verses Curtains

I hung curtains today in my bedroom. The heat factor in my bedroom in summer is very bad.

My blinds were not doing the job. The minute I hung the curtains I could tell they are going to make a big difference to the heat coming in that window. I have kept the blinds there, I now have added protection on my windows for summer. And they look pretty good for cheapies from Spot light!

From now on, I’m a curtain girl.

Thank goodness they are back in again.

Good one Michelle!

We have built a modern home and thought we'd go for blinds or shutters but after living with curtains in previous traditional homes ... nothing but nothing can replace good curtains for insulation and privacy IMO.

Our curtain guy came out today and we've confirmed the order for ceiling to floor blockout, sheers and sharp modern pelmets for the front rooms.

Best of both worlds IMO.

I love 'em. :D

I’ve always thought curtains were better when it came down to heat reduction.

I just avoided them course they reminded me of nannas house.
Mine you, if I had of put these curtains up 5 years ago, I would have thought…..
Hello nanna!!!

Funny how trends come and go……so dam quickly!

By the way my curtains are a quick fix for summer only, they will come down over winter.

I have always been a curtain girl :D :D :D

I my last house, I had these beautiful contempoary drapes from the ceiling to the floor, slightly gathered. There was never a day went by that I didnt admire my window furnishings. I spent 12k on a small townhouse for window treatment  but it was the best thing I put in my house. In my new home, I am going to do the same thing...in certain rooms. I love the gathered silk look curtains and I will have them ceiling to floor again.

I think it all depends on how you have them designed and the material that is selected. To me, there is something romantic with big billowy curtains blowing in the breeze. Curtains do not remind me of grannies houses at all...I didnt even know they went out of fashion

We need a photo Michelle :D

We are putting sheers in the living room over the roller blinds. I think they will give the room a very luxurious feel. Would love some photos DeeElle when yours are done, if you don't mind :)

Here they are.

Doing the job I need, today’s a stinker again, and the curtains are great!

This is the lounge room; see the gapes between the slates?
This is what lets in the heat!!!

No see the bedroom…….by the way, these curtains were only $70 dollars at Spot Light.
I’ve always said you get what you pay for. They are not backed.

Nice Mish - I personally prefer curtains over blinds. Blinds just don't make rooms dark enough or keep out any heat.

Thanks girls!

We have had a very hot day here today.
My bedroom is much more bearable now with the curtains.

Also, my blinds broke yesterday.
Need to take them down over the weekend to see what’s going on; they don’t close all the way at the moment. Thank goodness for the curtains or after today, I’d be sleeping in the lounge room with the aircon tonight. :?

I hate these blinds; they have given me grief ever since they went in.

Not sure if I can do the wallpaper now…..too much pattern in a small room.
Might need to just leave the Purple feature wall as is.

Thanks Mrs B…..you did mean the curtains didn’t you.
My Nanny is always proud of me. I’m proud of her, she’s 94 and still going strong.

Your mum sounds so trendy and just gorgeous :D :D :D

I read elsewhere that she has put in other things in her house that I loved. Is she a designer?

btw...I am so desperate for window furnishing pictures (we are all still waiting for yours  ) would your mum mind if you took a picture of her silk curtains and posted in on homeone?

I'm a hopless picture addict

I'm glad you asked Mrs B. I was thinking of asking  as well. I'm absolutely stuck for ideas. Have been trolling google but keep coming up with very American style window treatments. Lovely if you have a traditional house but not really contemporary.

I had silk ones quoted for 3 windows, with the most stunning sheers!

But the lady closed shop, not a word to anyone, just shut shop and left us all wondering what happened.

That’s 2 gone in Nowra now, backward place! :?

No she isn't a designer and she tends to like silk curtains - she does do a great job of putting things together.

My curtains should arrive in the next two weeks and mum's are being installed progressively over the next few days. I'll add pics of her completed rooms if she's ok with it.

She was worried she'd overdone the front room (silk curtains, sheers, pelmet and automatic roller blind) but in fact it looks fabulous.
