Yes the pictures are misleading I think - on reading about it the lighting should be quite "soft" behind the TV which apparently is better for your eyes when watching TV ... I'll keep researching! Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 4May 23, 2012 8:54 am We are just doing downlights, and having the front lights & back lights on different switches so we can dim the back lights and have the front lights off completely. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 5May 23, 2012 9:45 am Hi McLaren, We're going to have downlights, dimmable. But I've seen some home theater rooms , they used like tiny stars (light) on the ceiling, so if you turned off the lights, the room is dark but the ceiling will light up with stars, feel like we are under the stars... But hometheater room supposed to be dark, the HT guy suggested to paint ceiling and walls in dark colors, that's the idea, so will stand out the TV/pictures.... (just like in the movie) Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 6May 23, 2012 6:18 pm Mclaren Hi Michelle, what happened to your new picture - you've gone back to the old you? I didn't really think too many people looked at the avatars..... can't remember which one I had up now? Painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls was also recommended to us. Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 8May 28, 2012 4:19 pm I bought one of these at Ikea and we attached it to the back of the TV on the weekend ... it looks great! You can have it cycle through the 7 colours or just choose one .... I love the purple colour http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10202328/ For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 9May 28, 2012 4:26 pm willcres I've seen some home theater rooms , they used like tiny stars (light) on the ceiling, so if you turned off the lights, the room is dark but the ceiling will light up with stars, feel like we are under the stars... This is what DF has been talking about getting for our home theatre room. We will see. Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 10May 29, 2012 10:54 pm Depends on what you want; if you want to be able to walk around safely, then 1W LED wall lights, mounted low (ours are mounted about 40cm off the floor), will just light the walk-ways. Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 11Feb 09, 2013 8:29 am I want LED stars in the ceiling of our downstairs home theatre room. When I discussed this with the electrician he said it could be done in an upstairs room because of access to the ceiling but it could not be done in a downstairs room. It seems to me it should be possible. Could any carpenter/gyprocker out there telll me whether the gyprock pannels could be drilled with the tiny holes for the LEDS, have the LEDS and their wires attached, then the pannels be installed against the bearer/ battens of the ceiling of my downstairs home theatre room? I know great care would have to be taken to mark out where the wires bundled together so as not to put the screws supporting the ceiling pannels through them, but it seems to me that it should be possible. In other words I am talking about fitting the ceiling, with the LEDS in it, up against the existing ceiling OR against the ceiling battens after removing the existing ceiling. I hope someone, who is a ceiling person, can help me. Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 12Feb 13, 2013 9:50 am hi there, how it is done is with a fibre optic star kit.... if on the ground floor, the best and easiest way of doing it is to make a thin suspended/false ceiling to accommodate the kit..... Re: Home theatre lighting ... what have you done? 13Feb 13, 2013 2:02 pm tengals hi there, how it is done is with a fibre optic star kit.... if on the ground floor, the best and easiest way of doing it is to make a thin suspended/false ceiling to accommodate the kit..... I would prefer to use LEDs rather a than a fibre optic kit becaues I don't need the twinkling ( nice though I'm sure it is) I rather need the saving on space and power that LEDs give. If I can suspend a fibre optic star kit from a false ceiling then why can't I install LED stars on a false ceiling? My electrician said I could not and I don't know why. Could someone who is a plasterer or gyprocker give an opinion. Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
