Thanks Michelle for the reply, I am hoping I can afford shutters now, I've found they are pretty expensive!! And thanks for heads up on light stops... never heard of them before.

Hi Brissmith, in England sheers and net curtains are aplenty! Over there they hang them on long pieces of 'cable' which is like a really long, thin wire spring, covered with white plastic and has a metal loop on each end. They thread the cable through the nets, screw hooks into the window frame (which is normally timber), and stretch the cable to hang on the hooks. For bay windows, they just screw an extra hook in each corner and hook the cable over it, which pulls the nets into the corners.

So Im back again. Its so great to get outside opinions on here. My delemma of the week is my kids bedroom windows. Ive made all the roman blinds for this house and they came out great BUT my kids bedroom windows are very wide and short. I made the blinds for my daughters bedroom but being that there had to be 3 blinds together, they just dont sit right. All 3 bedroom windows are the same. Heres a pic below to explain the size and possition. What do you guys think would look good? Ive thought about timber venetians but i can stand dusting them.lol

Hi, im copying this over from my thread, having trouble deciding, and wondering what im going to think of my 'chosen pattern' in 5/10 years time...lol! ---
really want to get a move on with curtains, making the family room a priority. Heres what im trying to decide between.
1st one - i had liked this one since before we moved in, but the curtain consultant doesnt like it. i dont care what he thinks, our tastes are clearly different, but now im unsure??? huge plus is that it is way cheaper than the others [ img ]
3rd one - originally liked for the bedroom, but as same price as 2nd one, will consider for family room, but unsure if too dark, its black with a browny bronzey thru it [ img ] i would do the plain for the curtain and the flower for the pelmet. the consultant was trying to push me to do the full flower for the whole curtain in the bedroom, but im not convinced. if we were to use this in the family, i would pick something cheaper for the bedroom, maybe option one? flower material [ img ] on website http://www.warwick.com.au/our-collectio ... x?view=155
and final 4th - is from the dechellis display at st clair [ img ] i dont like the material by itself and would have never picked it from a sample......but as a whole....... [ img ] [ img ]
im not sure if it will go with our wall colour, it seemed a little green. DH is picking up the sample today before our appointment tomorrow. it was a real wow factor walking into that display as it was floor to ceiling and wall to wall, but because of the placement of our door, it cant be wall to wall, so im having trouble picturing it.

[ img ] [ img ] and heres the kitchen just to give you an idea of colours/style within that same area [ img ]
i can see the purple you are talking about in the photo, but thats probably not a true indication of the actual colour (its too hard to capture colours in photos) i really think there is too much black for a large window in the family room, from a distant it look just all black and you cant really see the lines, so i have ruled that one out. the last one does have a green tinge which doesnt go with the wall coloue (solver pelt) so between the first two i think im leaning towards the 2nd one (the darker colour) and possibly leaving the roses for the lounge or bedroom. we are just getting the family curtains and shutters for skinny windows and front door for now, then we will revisit materials again to finalise the other rooms, maybe in 6 months (when the money tree flowers again

Ok, so currently doing the temporary curtain thing right now that is getting tired quickly. I have fallen in love with the wave look and wonder how this works with having curtains AND sheers? Can you double track it? Can the same look be achieved with eyelets? I have googled for images and only found either sheers or curtains, does anyone have something they can show me?
I would like privacy on the front windows and also block outs to keep the Melbourne winter out on a south facing front but will probably not need it on every room...
Can anyone help? I have read the entire thread and wonder if I have fallen in love with an expensive option??
Would love photos of anyone who has installed these.

I have just finished making this type of curtain last week - most tracks are singular as the wave needs space to the front and back, so making it a double track gives a large projection out from the wall, which also requires more strength from the brackets and blackout lining does add a lot of weight. One of my suppliers is bringing out one that is a double track so it is possible.

Thanks 4walls, I also just saw a picture of black outs with a double pinch on track with the sheers on a wave in front, have you done that before?

Hi, hoping someone can clear up for me the difference in the look between ready made venetians and custom made venetains? I am looking at buying these: http://www.cheapa-blinds.com.au/Shutter-Blinds-Ready-Made-Alabaster-P193.aspx and then paying the $25 so it is cut to the correct width/drop, but I am not sure what the difference will be other than the cost saving is quite significant from cutting ready mades to custom make blinds. Please help!!
P.s Just looking at venetians (not worried about the shutter side of it).

would it be acceptable to have material joins on a valance? i know it would depend on which way the material is, but i dont recall seeing joins in display homes

absolutely acceptable - some valances require it. the one you saw may not have had a seam, or if there was one and they did a good job of making the seam 'invisible'

I'm in the industry, so I hope that my response can help. I'm assuming that you don't want to do Roman blinds on a short window, because if you mount them inside the window frame, it takes up too much of the window? If this is the case, can I recommend mounting them on the wall, above the window? The Roman Blinds we manufacture, typically raise to stack at 290-300mm, which can take up too much glass space on a short window. However, if you mount these blinds 300mm above the window (& obviously make the blinds 300mm longer) then when open, all the blinds will stack up above the window and you will have a full view out. How wide are your windows? Some of our fabrics can cater for up to 3 metre windows - so there is rarely a window they don't fit. Other wise, you can build multiple Roman blinds, to match the width of your window paneling.
Alternatively, there is Venetians like you mentioned (which only require a dusting or damp sponge) or Roller Blinds for this type of window.
