Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 23, 2020 4:43 pm We have the typical Perth double brick home built in 20111 prior to insulation being required to be installed in double brick walls. Should have done it then but now looking at the possibility of retrofitting. Insulguard Cavity Shield https://insulguardinsulation.com.au/cavity-shield/ looks to be the easiest in terms of a retrofit. Anyone had any experience with the installation and cost? Anyone have any suggestions on possible downside? You either need to remove sheets and anticon (not easy) or they have to drill walls to blow it in. I looked at the blow in cavity insulation when I was building (it's much easier during the construction process) but opted for standard cavity insulation in the end. There is also the Knauf rockwool version that seems comparable however the one you have referenced seems to answer much of the concern around moisture and it looks like it would fill better. Edit: Just looked through their whole site and they say they don't have to drill walls. They must have to pull screws and roll up sheets at intervals to access the cavities. We are building and opted for double glazed windows, R5.0 insulation batts and anticon roof blanket but have no insulation for our walls so this looks like it might be a good option. Re: Anyone installed InsulGuard Cavity Shield? 6Feb 24, 2020 9:46 am Thank you both for your responses. Much appreciated. We didn't end up with anticon either - builder didn't recommend it back then (one of WA's best supposedly????) Looks like the main issue will be making sure they refit the Colourbond properly Firstly, if your house is still under builder's warranty (10 years in Victoria) you should have no need to crawl into roof space but let the builder handle it, unless you… 3 5797 The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 16145 Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you. And have seen their sites unfinished for a long time. 4 25706 |
