Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 28, 2014 10:28 am Hi all, We recently purchased a home to live in and we haven?t really done much in terms of improvements internally. Our main bedroom is so old fashioned and dull and we really want to liven it up and turn it into our sanctuary / retreat which we can be proud of (on a limited budget). Here are some pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/115697696 ... 858676786/ The things I wanted to change are: 1: The colour of the room 2: The brown window frames and skirtings 3: The brown door and ugly door knobs, including the internal sliding door 4: The light fittings I guess the starting point would be the painting. Do you have any suggestions as to a really uplifting colour for the room, skirting and doors? I know its probably a personal preference, but I am not really good when it comes to colours and colour coding. Also, would appreciate any tips you may have. Cheers Re: Master bedroom reno (minor) 3Aug 29, 2014 9:17 am Just get a few magazines and see what others have done. Get some colour charts and compare. Programs like The Block and The Living Room throw up some good ideas too although a lot of theirs are about styling as much as colours ( not to mention spending big $$$'s ) . You also need to think about what you are going to do with the rest of the place. Stewie Re: Master bedroom reno (minor) 4Sep 11, 2014 6:38 pm It's not only about the paint. but for bedroom colours like yelllow, peachy or light-green are great. I don't like white walls and our master bedroom's walls are in ohra. But it depends also on the furniture and the blinds...you just have to find some ideas as Stewie D advised you. You will find the style and design that fits you the most. And you really need to think about the rest of the place. It seems that the problem is not only the bedroom. If you are planning kitchen renovation it will be much more complicated - remodelers, carpenters and at the end there is a lot of rubbish to be removed...so and rubbish removal company. Don't let this stop you. In my case the end result deserved all the trobles and all the money we spent. If you need to get rid of your junk or any things you don't need anymore in the house http://paulsrubbishremovalmelbourne.com.au Re: Master bedroom reno (minor) 5Sep 13, 2014 12:40 am here's some colours you can contemplate Grey, blue and some orange for contrast and green. white , blue and silver Lime green, black white walls Sage green, rust and natural cotton Our kitchen is going to be Green (benches), pale grey kick boards, white gloss cupboards - we're painting ceiling white, walls with grey stripes. The things we can't change are the benches (lime green) and horrible orange/brown tiles - so we're using paint colours to match what we have. I've used this website with their colour wheels to help pick suitable colours - http://www.tigercolor.com/color-lab/color-theory/color-harmonies.htm I hope this helps you. Thank you so much.
