Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 07, 2013 10:14 am Hi - we are renovating our place in East Fremantle. Adding 2nd storey addition which will be weatherboard clad. We have chosen Shale Grey Colorbond for the roof, Surfmist gutters, white barge boards and rafter tails etc. But - presently have selected Dulux Light Rice (full strength) for exterior walls. Just wanted to get some informed opinion as to whether this will work. The ground floor will be rendered. Any thoughts? Re: Exterior Colour 3Feb 07, 2013 12:10 pm OK - hope this works. First is the "as was" shot: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now the following are computer images of the finished product. We want to maintain a very traditional look, but the grey(ish) theme in these photos is not quite there (hence we have been thinking more along the lines of the light rice). Only variable is the wall colour. Any tips greatly appreciated! Wondering whether we go half strength on the light rice. Re: Exterior Colour 4Feb 07, 2013 12:42 pm I think Light Rice is too warm to go with a Shale Grey roof sorry! I would try something a bit cooler if you really want a Grey roof. maybe try Dulux Manorburn? If you want a warmer colour scheme how about a Colorbond Dune roof, with walls in Ghosting or Grey Pebble? I would try half or full strength of both of those colours, as colours tend to lose about half their strength when in full sun, compared to a paint swatch. I did a house with Shale Gray roof, Surfmist gutters and white trim, and we used Dulux Guild Grey Qtr Strength. I love the photo of the guild grey house you posted. I am building a two story home with Barramundi traditional tiles, Surfmist garage, white framed windows and a white door. I would really like to achieve a classy looking exterior. I quite like the greys (not too warm and not too cool). I just don't want it looking purple! I was thinking about a combination of full strength dune for our feature render panels and full strength limed white for the main area. The house will be fully rendered. What are your thoughts on these two colours combined? I don't want it looking washed out or too dark. I love the depth of colour of the house in the photo you posted.
