Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 03, 2022 4:39 pm Hi All, We live in Brisbane and like many others have had flood damage from the Feb 2022 floods. The water ingress was very minimal through our external walls only but insurance have removed all of our plasterboard sheeting to 1200mm just to be safe. We've never had any insulation in our walls, however I've been thinking this might be the perfect time while everything is apart. Do you think it is worth insulating all walls to only 1200mm throughout the whole house? The house is a typical 4 bedroom + 2 car garage early 2000s single story brick veneer. Ideally I'd look to perform this work myself. I don't think it would be worth pulling down the rest of the sheeting to do the rest of the walls, as we've never had too much issue with heat/cold etc. Thanks! Re: Worth Insulating walls to 1200mm? 2Sep 04, 2022 10:54 am Hey schplade Welcome to the forum Unfortunately you can/t insulate against flood. I'd be waiting for the new codes which are in the pipeline some where and then decide, how to best spend your money I would also be asking the Qld and NSW governments why they are taking so long? Cheers Chris Hey StructuralBIMGuy Thanks for the welcome. Not looking to stop any flood waters with the insulation. Our particular flooding was very minimal and hopefully a freak event, we aren't anywhere near water or on the flood maps. The intention would be more so to provide some minimal heating/cooling and acoustic benefits for a small cost while we can reach the space easily. Cheers Re: Worth Insulating walls to 1200mm? 5Sep 04, 2022 6:03 pm That is a really interesting question. I don’t know what the best action is as adding half height insulation leaves the upper uninsulated which could be argued to offset the insulation below. Professionally: I don’t know, sorry. Personally: I wouldn’t do it. Why? Cost vs return. Future flood damage possibility.
