Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 19, 2014 8:04 pm To cut a long story short, after 3 years of thinking, dreaming and planning, we actually have a design for our new house. We've had some help, but have had a lot of input ourselves, and we are now worried that after such a long time, our perspective on design has become so warped, that we can't see if something looks good or not! We would really appreciate some feedback. It can just be a simple 'nice' or 'yuk!' if you like, or if you are feeling inspired, maybe a bit more detail about what you like / dislike about the façade. Anything would be a help! Have reduced their size, hope this helps. Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 3Oct 22, 2014 11:12 am Well, a big WOW from me. I love it. It has so many points of interest! Looks extremely impressive. LOVE the stones that you're using, i think they are going to look amazing. Love the fact that all the balconies aren't under covered either - the middle is exposed to the weather. I think you've done a really great job at creating a facade that's going to stand out! Also love the big tower of vertical windows. Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 4Oct 22, 2014 12:41 pm Looks great to me! Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 6Oct 22, 2014 1:02 pm I really like it too, I think it looks fantastic. My only concern is the brick and the stone might clash/be too busy... just be careful when chosing your bricks. But then again I'm not a fan of bricks, I would rather have that rendered in a dark colour than bricks, but that is just a personal choice. My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 7Oct 23, 2014 10:45 am there is a bit too much going on for me. the stone bungalow part seems detached from the modern white glass part and again from the brick garage part. i think for the contrast to work well the modern and traditional should be separated, not combined and visable on one side looking like an extension. Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 8Oct 23, 2014 12:59 pm I dont mind the mix of modern and traditional styles, the white box of the entry is sandwiched between the two hipped roofs - so I don't mind it. I dont like that the portico roof goes in front of window, and the column looks to be too close to the corner for an eave - the lining under there appears to only be within the central portion, so the column looks really odd. Where is north? I'm not sure about the change of material for the handrail, either all glass or all balusters. There's lots of blank wall behind the entry, maybe 25-30 msq of brickwork broken up only by a small flat roof of the entry. cheers mgilla Re: New home custom build - does this facade look good to yo 10Nov 02, 2014 5:55 am Thank you so much everyone - that feedback was fantastic! Lots of different opinions, and attention to detail. We'll go back and look through the design with all your comments in mind. Thanks again!! I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34269 6 55346 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27712 |
