We brought an old house about 2 years ago with a pre-existing alarm system. The previous owners (who were really unhelpful) had no idea what the master code was and just gave us the regular one they had been using (or, more precisely, their renters had been using. Yup, safe!). There are few details on the alarm itself and the 'security' stickers around the house are from a firm that has gone out of business.
Recently the alarm system as been playing up - going off for no reason, unable to switch off etc and we want to replace it with a new one.
We don't have enough money to try and call someone in and want to replace the alarm ourselves. How do we even start?
The alarm has a control box by the door and sensors in the rest of the house. I don't think the 'guts' or main operational part is in that control box though. There is a small white box with some large cables running from it behind the microwave that we think may be involved.
