Hi all,

We are required to have a 20,000L water tank on our property, of which 10,000L must be dedicated for fire fighting purposes. We also have to have the correct hose/pipe fittings for fire hoses, and a generator attached.

Does anyone else have this kind of tank? Do you need it close to the house or specifically near the road for easy access? Can it be sunk into the ground? Is such a tank different to a regular water tank (ie made from different material)?

I am going to contact the RFS to confirm details but would love to know if anyone has any experience with this. Thanks!

hi there we have to have a minimum of 31500l concrete water tank with a conection point for rural fire brigade. we can put it where ever we want. I think you just talk to your tank supplier and thry will tell you what fittings you need.

we have to have 225000L, the best place to locate it (if you are using it to supply water to the house) is level with the house that way the pump can be a smaller one (less power), if you have to pump uphill then you will require a larger pump.
If fire fighting is the only requirement then nearer to the house would have to be a better idea (less distance to pump water), if you sink it into the ground the maintaining it might be difficult, and of course vehicular access is of premium importance because if the tank does not receive enough rain in the winter then a water truck will need access to fill it
