Hi there,

Currently I have Hills networx nx4 installed by the builder and looking to upgrade to either Hills reliance NX8 OR 12. As I am working on a tight budget, I am looking to keep some of the alarm hardware exp external siren and upgrading only to what I need exp alarm panel. Being a novice, my knowledge is limited. Appreciate if there is any home alarm security experts out there who can point me to the right direction. cheers

Hi

All alarm panels are basically the same - they monitor the state of switches (linked to doors or windows or inside movement sensors) and connect to a speaker or siren to make a noise if they aren't in the expected state. The only things that are particular to a brand are keypads and remote controls.

As you are just changing to a panel with more zones but from the same company you will be able to keep all of your current equipment.

One word of caution, programming an alarm from the keypad isn't the simplest thing - it is easier if you can get the PC software but I am not sure where you get it for he NX series.

Paul

As the person above me said all you will have to change over is the panel. A new 8 Service board is usually a bit under $100 if you buy from DAS, if you buy it from an installer they will probably whack a bit extra ontop, but that should give you a rough estimate of how much it's going to cost.

As for programming they are one of the easiest panels to program, if you get stuck or need the installation manual message me and I can email it to you.

Hi Paulw11 and tubbyM, thanks for your kind feedback.

To TubbyM, if I am not a tradesperson, can purchase be made directly from DAS? I am looking at purchasing a nx12 panel. Pardon my ignorance but if I was to upgrade to a new panel, do I need to purchase a new keypad as well? cheers
