What can't you live without in your home?

I'm doing some research and am interested to find out what are people's thoughts around must have features for a new 3 bedroom house? What can't you live without?

I have to have enough:
- wardrobe space for all my clothes and shoes
- cupboards and bench top space in the kitchen
- ensuite

Built in wardrobes. A shower (not over the bath). Yes decent sized kitchen. Dining room (not necessarily a formal one). Not to boxy but not TOO open plan. You do need some privacy. Enough power points. Natural light. A verandah (at least enough so you aren't in the rain. I've seen some with nothing over the front door. Big doors to the backyard I love the indoor outdoor to a big deck. (not going through the laundry)YUK!!!

Dishwasher

Lots of doors! Our house has an open layout but plenty of doors to close off areas for heating/cooling & to reduce noise.
Ducted vacuum system. Ok, I admit I could live without it but it is so handy! Particularly the vacsweep in the kitchen.

Lighting over kitchen bench/work areas! The one light in the middle creating shadows mixed with a sharp knife, fail! I love having heaps of task lighting in the kitchen!

2 toilets/ bathrooms the whole reason we built a new house :lol:

Doors closing off areas such as laundry, study...the places that are likely to become messy.

Heaps of storage, all built in robes, big pantry & big linen press.

I'd say a games room/study type thing also if you have kids

Angel D - I concur with your list - you can never have enought cupboard/storage space - really check your plans and if an extra linen press can be put in anywhere do it.

I think I can't live without everything, I think every part is important and a house is never complete if it's missing a room i.e bathroom, bedroom, living room, laundry.

I don't dream of having a big house, I just want it to be complete.

Nice big windows, no crummy little ones like in today's display homes. Ducted vaccuuming, heating of some sort, ceiling fans, decent sized rooms especially kitchen! Walk in pantry... oh the list goes on ::hyst::

Cupboard space is important but it's one of those things I never thought about when chosing a home, I think we'll have enough though!

...and quality furniture - VERY important.

having the stacker doors from family / meals area to alfresco
a big kitchen
and did i mention plenty of storage :lol:

Storage space - built in cupboards
dishwasher
lights above benches (led downlights help with that!!)
zone airconditioning
entertaining area outside as well as inside

I've read that is old school to have separate toilets but I am with you - I hate the toilets in bathrooms!

Ohhh they are called powder rooms now.....no idea where that term came from. We have renamed our powder room the number 2 room ::wink::

I know powder rooms have been around for a long time but am pleased to hear they are still in favour. I guess the name comes from 'going to powder my nose' lol

I nearly bought a 3 bedroom house but changed my mind towards building a 4 bedder.
