Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 02, 2016 6:30 pm My husband and I are about to undertake the next part of our self build - the kitchen/dinning/lounge great room. The problem is, I can not work out how to design the kitchen - no matter how I look at the space, I can not seem to make it work. The space has a raked ceiling, 2.9m at the lower side up to about 3.4m on the higher. This makes the space unsuitable for upper cabinets. (Plus, I don't really like them.) My other big dilemma is the fridge. I don't want it to be the focal point of the room, but I can't work out where to put it. Other things: I need a butler's pantry that will house a separate fridge, two 600 ovens, a microwave, fridge and maybe a dishwasher (I cater from home), and I would also like a VERY big island that has no appliances or sinks housed on it. Because we are owner builders we can move walls, add walls, move, add or delete windows, etc, etc... this is design heaven - go for your life. On the attachment you will see where the two entrances to the room are - one on each end - these are the only thing that has to stay. The windows marked on the attachment are sliding doors. We would ideally like big sliders, as we have an amazing view to the south and wan the sun from the north - plus we will eventually have decks out both sides. We would really love to see your ideas - help is desperately needed!! Thanks so much! Anna Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen design help needed! 2Jan 03, 2016 9:45 am Sounds lovely. Do you have a plan of the whole house as it stands at the moment? Also, is it a necessity for the ovens to go in the butlers? You'll need to consider ventilation if that's the case I think and the simplest ventilation, window isn't that great for food storage (light?) I guess you would need to take the space to section it off. Our ceiling is raked I think about 3.5 to 2.7. Our kitchen will go along the back and left wall here. A slimline bulkhead will go above the overhead cabinets on the rear wall. It depends of course how steep the angle is, this is a fairly large space and the highest part of the ceiling is above the dining area. No need to put them though, I don't like them a lot which is why we only put one row. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The plan is to have another 900 oven in the main kitchen as well as the two in the butlers pantry. The butlers pantry will have a flat ceiling to make venting much easier. I want to avoid bulkheads if I can, I want that clear line of sight - just to make my life more complicated. Re: Kitchen design help needed! 4Jan 04, 2016 11:50 am Hey Anna, all the best with your build. Are the cupboards to go on the lower part of the ceiling or higher? Or are they running between the low and high ends? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Kitchen design help needed! 5Jan 08, 2016 8:45 pm "..
