Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Sep 22, 2015 2:26 pm Hi All, Hoping someone could help us out! We are in the process of getting our build quoted, and on a sloping block we are looking to use 390x90x190 solid concrete blocks (not hebel - just mortar join blocks) on the lower level. I have pasted the link to what I am after below. My problem is, looks like our dear architect has chosen quite an expensive design as these blocks are around $2.80-$3.40 each and we need around 10,000 of them!!!! Can anyone either point me in the direction of a cheaper alternative or know of where to get them for a cheaper price? We thought this would be a cheaper option than hebel as we wouldn't have to core fill them with concrete but it is now feeling like an expensive option to us!!! TIA http://www.mdbrick.com.au/products/Conc ... ing-blocks Re: Solid concrete blocks - HELP! 2Sep 22, 2015 2:55 pm don't think you'll get much cheaper than the lower end of that scale. Have you compared the price difference between a standard material like brick? Its the difference in price that is important in the cost calculation, not the total cost of the material. You might find that for aesthetic purposes you wont mind paying a few extra grand. Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Solid concrete blocks - HELP! 4Sep 23, 2015 1:00 pm a standard universal brick is is about 70c. i would assume a premium brick that I would use would be approx twice that, so youre looking at a price difference of arround 10-15k between the two materials (napkin math disclaimer) Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Solid concrete blocks - HELP! 5Sep 27, 2015 6:12 pm if your wall is to be core filled I would imagine that it is some sort for retaining wall with internal steel? In any event you actually build these walls with H blocks and use 1/2 blocks and full blocks for the ends and corners. H blocks can be had for 2 dollars. You can also get a brand of block that interlocks so no need for mortar. Adbri versaloc or versawall are a few available. No need for a brickie. If you have the work needing to retaining u say, I would think this commercial system would come out cheaper. See "Newmans Concrete Products" they're here in my own neck of the woods in Albany West Aust, & I'm not suggesting their products just they have a pic of what's used a lot down here on unlevel ground both domestic & commercial jobs. Might help - I've no idea of costing, but their frequency of use would indicate to me that these are most likely the most economic method. see the design and check with some local concrete manufacturers Cheers Tony If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8250 Those span tables can be pushed a little for a low deck if you dont mind a little flex. Last deck I did, I pushed it a little and it was still rock solid - no noticeable… 6 13693 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15818 |
