Very exciting that you are so close to the finish line Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 263Jun 30, 2014 10:25 am Deck with a view The glass balustrade installation started Friday, and continues today. It's actually turned out better than expected -- I really didn't want a modern look to the deck, but the heavy black railing seems to relieve that a bit. Plus, the view is uninterrupted, and it'll act as a wind break. Here's me looking sufficiently pleased: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm hoping the major expenditures are now over (ie: bills over $5k each time!). Oh, and bank has agreed to release the rest of the funds despite not having occupancy yet -- seems their valuer was well pleased with how things have progressed. Woo! A question for those in the know: I put a second coat of oil on the deck, and the yellow pigment seems to have floated to the top (you can kinda see it in the photo). I've never seen that happen before. Any clues why, and the best way to fix it? Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 264Jun 30, 2014 10:27 am It looks fantastic! Huge congrats I'll ask DH re the deck Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 265Jun 30, 2014 12:21 pm Looks fantastic, what a beautiful setting! Sorry, no idea about the oil deck issue but am interested to find out. Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 268Jun 30, 2014 10:57 pm DH wondering what type of wood the timber is, and was it cleaned with any products prior to oiling? The deck timber is Merbau, and it was cleaned with Cabots deck cleaner (twice) beforehand. I have a suspicion that it may have rained a few hours after that second coat and, as it hadn't soaked in completely, the water floated the oil to the surface. Might need sanding, or maybe just another clean... not sure... Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 270Jul 01, 2014 12:29 pm He said to try giving it another clean Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 274Jul 05, 2014 8:58 am Great news Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 275Jul 06, 2014 1:22 pm Loving all your updates since last I checked in. I'd be looking sufficiently pleased with that decking and view too. You have such a great eye for detail. Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69984 If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 276Jul 10, 2014 3:58 pm Quick update: the occupancy inspection happened on Tuesday as expected, but it's left a few unknowns in the air... the surveyor's going to write me a letter detailing the items that require attention. I'd expected some questions, but I'd really hoped everything would be ticked off on the day (I've been super careful to get all the bushfire stuff compliant). I'll let you know what the letter says when it arrives... might just require a Form 55 from the engineer or whatever. Who knows... Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 277Jul 11, 2014 8:39 am Fingers crossed its simple! Any luck with the deck? At least the oil's on the boards and they're weather protected. Must get the skirting and doors painted!
