Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 22Nov 10, 2009 6:37 pm Bam What type of tradies are you looking for specifically? Hmm, where do i start!? The project is at 0% at the moment, so we need an excavator, concreter and brickie to get the work started. In theory, it's a fairly easy piece of work as the excavation is only scraping the site to get it level and digging the foundations. There's one wall where it could get tricky as we're digging out under the existing house so we need a builder to get in first and put in some acro-props to hold the house up before the excavation. Does anyone know someone apart from a builder who may specialise in propping up the house so we can get the excavation started? Cheers Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 23Nov 10, 2009 7:24 pm This is the thread i started for our O/B extension project, it's got the plans in there which give a better picture of the work needed. http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=24368 Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 24Nov 10, 2009 8:13 pm Blacksea Bricklaying 0421 080 419 - There was a sign up from this company doing the house opposite the entrance of our street. I havent 'closely' inspected, but it looks like a pretty good job. http://bricke.com.au/ - used to be a member of the forum under 'brickie' and provided a lot of good knowledge and seemed to know his stuff (hmm... I seem to recognise one of the surnames from a student at the school I teach at, looks like I have some further investigating to do! ) Havent got any recs for excavation, and the only slab rec I have is listed above. Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 25Feb 02, 2010 4:26 pm Great Thread! Thanks Bam for starting it! We are starting to think of OBing our first home. But both of us are not handy men and have no contacts in the industry. One of the other posters said OB project will really save you money if you have contacts. Otherwise if you end up paying retail you midas well go with a project builder/local builder. Any advice people? Thanks. Praveena. Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 26Jun 02, 2010 11:15 pm Straightedge paving for concreting and my slab (I had to convince him to do my domestic slab, and he spent hours afterward polishing it). I'm looking for a brickie guys ASAP. For Double-Glazed windows, ECO is a good budget product I found. Aluminum thermal-break looks good. I only queried the silicon beading quality, but Ed knows his stuff. I paid more at Miglas for a premium product (aluminium-VicAsh); but I didn't pay much more. I was really disappointed with Certainteed PVC windows. The welding looked 2nd rate to me. I have had patients that really recommend them and are happy with them. Wes (bald passionate bloke) is great and has a green heart, but some of the mechanisms were dumb (jamming fingers with slider etc.) Brad from whatever double glazed PVC apparently have a seamless system. I was promised a quote, but never got one. Demolisher - Anwar (I can get his number from my builder). Worked his butt off. Efficient, not expensive, but had a brain and was careful when he needed to be. Guys I need a bricklayer (18m x 6m single brick narrow besser...no windows/doors..one face only.) Re: OB tradie recommendations Melbourne 27Sep 27, 2010 10:15 am *bumping this thread up* Has anyone got a recommendation for a carpenter? I'm located in Southbank, near South Melbourne. I need to find someone to shorten my WIR doors. We haven't done our slab yet but this guy is going to do it, he was highly recommended to me by a builder i know who recently built his own house and this guy did his slab and by all reports he was very good. I have been impressed so far with the dealings i have had and his price was right on the money. Does both waffle and conventional. Sherritt Concreting, Darren - 0415 563 801 Hope this helps.
