We are inland from Cairns and so our weather is actually a bit sub-tropical even though we are in the tropics, and the rainforests are absolutely beautiful. There are so many nature places to go if you like that sort of thing... and we do. Spend a bit of time sweeping up some of the crap. I know it will get dirty again (tomorrow) but was sick of all the metal filings on the floor. Engineer was set to come out at 9 this morning, finally arrived at about 1pm. All good though, is doing what we need. I have noooo idea how much he was charging because we just need it done and there is no-one else. Decking has started. Almost completed one of the short ends of the verandah. Didn't have time to take updated photos. Having trouble deciding on lighting. We really want LED but are getting conflicting information on brightness and effectiveness. Any suggestions???? I have no other options. Its him or no approval on house. There just isn't anyone here local (except the one who is avoiding me) and no-one will come up from Cairns and if they did, they would charge me a fortune for the travel anyway...so just have to pay what he charges. One of the joys of owner building. Feeling very frazzled today. 4 Hrs sleep thanks to dogs and DS4 being awake from 4:30. The building stuff is now happening too fast for me to keep up with. Tiler called today to say he can't do the job because of a sick family member he has to care for. Think I have another one lined up, he just won't be available for about a month. Builder will be away next week as his DP is in Brisbane with family and is having cancer surgery. Really puts life in perspective. He is being very supportive and encouraging of what I am trying to get done but he is the one in a worse situation. Very decent bloke. I am waffling now...tired waffle. Do have more photos but too much to do to upload. Need to go and sort mountains of paperwork. A little bit more last night. Thanks for thinking of me Dee. It is just go, go, go. DH and I are being a bit nicer to each other today. We have both been sooooo tired and cranky. Thankfully we are both understanding of each other. Spoke to Edwards Solar HW people last night and they said they could come out next week. They called at 8:30 this morning to say they could install this afternoon . So poor DS4 had to have his sleep in the car while I sat out there for 2 hrs waiting for them to turn up . Deck 3/4 done but weather is starting to get to it so need to get on top of that. Photos soon I promise . Oh got a quote for painting. We had one quote from when we were originally trying to get the loan. so the quote from a year ago for internal and external (not including paint) was over $21000 . The quote this week $9000 (this includes filling screw holes on the cladding) and then he is also getting the paint cheap for me direct from Dulux (premium paint $30 cheaper per 15L than my trade price locally). The first painter took over 6wks to do the quote. Second painter had quote emailed to me within 24h of my first phone call. makes you wonder who wants my business. If they rave about him, lock him in. he sounds great. and you have saved HEAPS. whaoao! Re: Kitome Harrington MkIII...sure the stress will be worth 98Jul 27, 2010 1:49 pm kiwi 9k, bargain. ask to see his last 2 jobs and go talk to the owners. If they rave about him, lock him in. he sounds great. and you have saved HEAPS. whaoao! Well we weren't going to get anyone to paint (because of the cost of the initial quote). We were going to do it ourselves but for that price, its better to be in the new house than still painting next year . Have already booked him. I don't care how good you are, you can't be $12000+ better than the other guy at painting. Haven't checked out any other jobs but if I am not happy with his work...I'll sack him. I really need to get off H1 and do something productive to do with the house, but I am brain fried and very tired.
