Hi,
We are building a single storey home through a major project builder in metro Sydney. The area we are building in does not have recycled water, so we will need a RWT. We were told we need a 3000L tank. The builders supplier is tankworld.com.au
Now I am peeved about two things.
(1)- We were told that once the rainwater in the RWT is depleted, it will suck in 3000L from mains water and fill the RWT tank right up. And it will keep doing this if level goes down and there is no rain. I have two problems with it:
Why would I want to use stagnant water when I can have running water from the Mains. I understand that water can be stagnant inside the RWT, even if for short periods of time. Secondly, and more importantly, it sort of defeats the purpose. If the RWT is full of mains water and it rains, all that rainwater will be going down the drain ! I'm sure the decision makers would have thought of this scenario. I would love to know why, they still want the RWT to use mains water and not stay empty for the rain to fill it up.
(2)- The BASIX form that will form part of our submission for CDC has Laundry connected ot the RWT. I have read a few posts on here from people stating that their washing machine is connected to the RWT. I personally don't think its a great idea. The RWT can be the final resting place for a lot of rodents/lizards bacteria etc etc.
Why would you want to wash your clothes with that water ?
I would love to hear some expert views.
Thanks
