Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jan 03, 2012 8:26 pm I was looking around the Suntech website and noticed they have a product called JustRoof. It acts as a roofing solution, so if you were building a new home, you could get these solar panels instead of concrete/terracotta/colorbond roofing. Anyone got these? Would be interesting to know how much it costs to get those panels installed as a roof, instead of a traditional roof with panels on top. Its expensive I would assume, and the feed in tarrifs just got reduced as well, so while you may not have a bill.. there is no return on your investment. Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 4Jan 03, 2012 8:40 pm decryption $100,000?! I would suggest it would not be far from it.. Take a 300sqm roof space. Thats a whole lot of panels, and then all the electrical gear to run it, batteries to feed and store. It will cost about that I reckon. Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 5Jan 03, 2012 9:59 pm But you don't have to do the whole roof. If you look at the PDF Infosheet it shows that it can be done on only part of the roof so you can have it as big or small as you like (or can afford). According to their example a 3kW system is €15,000 (before any rebates, tax refunds etc.) which is about AUD 18,925. But that is the European price, so who knows what it would retail for in Australia? Still seems very expensive compared to "normal" solar systems. Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 7Jan 04, 2012 4:03 pm Apparently they have been around since 1994, however ONLY 5000 homes have been done in 17 years? This doesnt say much for concept. I would prefer to see them time-tested for quality etc before rushing out to buy them at I suspect a VERY expensive price Arfur Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 10Jan 05, 2012 11:41 pm I wish we had the range Europe and the USA does. Shingles, small flat bolt on squares, roll on, mexican rounded tiles, flat tiles, clip lock tile panels (2 meters by 400mm)... Nope~ We have hulking bolt on panels that weigh heaps mate! Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 11Jan 06, 2012 10:22 am Quote: We have hulking bolt on panels that weigh heaps mate! A 1580 X 808 panel only weighs a mere 15.5Kg which, compared to the many tons of roof tiles, is very little actually. This panel, apart from being far cheaper, is designed as an add-on for any type of roof covering rather than be an integral part of the roof so when things go wrong and they have to be removed etc your roof is not open to the elements. Have been looking at Tractile but struggling to get in contact with anyone from the company. Would also love feedback re integrated PV from anyone who has it. It still appears to be rare despite my investigations last time I built. I had hoped by now more people had tried them but as with all build products, people rarely step outside the norm. People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. I sent an email to Info@tractile.com.au and the director responded . Give email a go and in my case he responded in a couple of days. The Tractile is my pick of the lot, since it has solar water heating too. Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 15Nov 20, 2016 12:51 pm Cheers GLO. I will update if you can too please? Re: Solar Panels Instead Roof Tiles - Experiences? 20Jul 21, 2017 11:49 am Tractile contacted me but I can't justify the cost. It is prohibitive considering my overall budget.
